Was moving to Gold league a mistake?

I talked about the Silver-Gold league dilenma in my previous publication and summarised that I will be moving to the Gold league. I explained that while moving to the Gold league places me at a higher status, I presumed that I might not be able to compete at that level.

Things haven't exactly gone as I expected and I have somehow been winning battles in Gold 3 level with my Silver league maxed-out deck. In fact, I was even able to momentarily break into Gold 2 before being pegged back to Gold 3.

Winning so many battles in the Gold league came as a bit of a surprise for me but while winning a couple of battles is nice and all, I'm not actually satisfied with the situation.

So the story is, I started the season at Bronze level and have been stacking a decent number of chests every day. At the time of writing, I already have 83 Bronze chests to open at the end of the season. I also was getting upwards of 10 Silver chests at the end of every day.

Winning in Gold league earns me only a small amount of Daily Quest points and that means that I have to win an obscene amount of battles to even get one chest in the Gold league. Compare this to when I was in the Silver league where I earned more points and got more daily chests.

At the end of my first day in the Gold league, it is looking like I'll finish with a maximum of two chests and that's only on the premise that I'll have to grind out a couple more win. At the time of writing, there are still up to 2 hours until the end of my daily quest and I reckon I should be able to make it.

Perhaps I moved too early

You know what they say, Experience is the best teacher and my first day in Gold league has shown me the cracks in my system. I don't think moving to Gold league was entirely a bad idea, I think I moved too soon.

In my previous post, @preparedwombat dropped a comment/advice that I reckon I should have followed;

I hate being in Bronze, so I mostly battle in Silver but move up to Gold late in the season, just so I don’t have to start the next season in Bronze.

If I followed this advice, I'd have been grinding in the SIlver league throughout the season and only move to Gold league at the end of the season, so this way, I start the next season in Silver 3 and start the grind once again.

This aforementioned system will ensure that I squeeze out maximum value from the Silver league, as I will be scooping up silver chests in both daily and seasonal quests.

I reckon that I would be getting better value than moving to Gold mid-season and getting one or two gold chests that will give me only marginally better rewards anyway.

I like to think that scooping up 13 Silver chests per day is definitely better than scooping up 1 or 2 Gold chests in the same period. Unfortunately, I'm currently stuck with the latter for the rest of the season.

There's no way to take a step back in SPlinterlands, so I have to keep grinding in the Gold league. My only alternative is to intentionally lose battles until I drop into Silver league but that goes against my sportsmanship ethics and will also adversely affect my battle record, so that's out of the question.

I'll continue doing my best in the circumstance I find myself in. There are still 6 days of the season left to play and I intend to get maximum value from the hand I dealt myself.
