Continuing my tour of Tunapuy—the capital of the Libertador municipality in Sucre state—I’d like to share my visit to the center of this beautiful town, a place I really enjoyed for its natural surroundings and incredible landscapes. After exploring Bolívar Square and the nearby areas, I headed to the main avenue, also known as Troncal 9, which leads to the town of Güiria. This area features houses of various designs, most of them nestled against the mountainside; the street sits on high ground, and as the photograph shows, many homes have retaining walls to level the structure with the sloping terrain.
Also located along this avenue are the municipal market, the cultural center, and several houses with colonial-style architecture. One standout is a yellow house featuring eye-catching windows, a chaguaramo palm wall, and a tiled roof. The design incorporating walls and staircases is a recurring feature among these homes, serving as the entry and exit points due to the elevated location. From here, one can also view the mountains and the cultural center, which stands out for its colonial design—featuring a tiled roof, exposed wooden beams, and double-leaf wooden doors painted brown.

Here is another view of the various residences along this avenue; many feature stone-clad columns and walls. In addition to homes, there are several commercial establishments—such as bakeries and shops selling groceries, produce, and more—lining the road. The view of the mountain in the background is one of my favorite features. Much like the streets in colonial towns, these tend to be long and somewhat narrow, with houses situated on both sides. The next photo shows the mountain again, along with modern-style homes featuring triangular, tile-covered roofs. The final photo captures power lines and some curious plants growing on them.
