Personally, I don't think I can go all out on a digital detox especially when it involves a day or two away from my phone. However, I can try to balance my screen time with my physical activities, family time and a sound sleep of better hours. It's no news that for most of us in Nigeria, our phone has become more like a mobile office.
With our phones, we take notes of important events so as not to forget initiating important projects at the right time. We read on our phones, we have our online office on our phone, we blog and connect with friends through the phone, we earn too from there. For most people, their phone holds their highest source of income. If there is one thing I know is that time is money.
The more time that we invest into value creation, the better chances we stand at attracting wealth.
As someone who has worked with a couple of employers, I noticed that there is this particular pattern when it comes to remuneration. You see, those in the engine room, carrying out all the tasks rarely get an appropriate wage rate. I have also come to the realization that being a lower ranking officer in most organizations is all about working hard and not necessarily smart.
With working hard, we get to exert more physical labour. It's even more complicated with hard work because it also takes a toll on our mental health. One is basically exhausting their entire well being getting the job done while still not being paid commensurate with the efforts that they put in. Little wonder why there are so many youths in my country no longer willing to be saddled with a 9-5 job kinda lifestyle.
Even the older adults are fast turning to digital earnings. For people like that whose income stream or at least a chunk of it comes from the digital space, it will be quite difficult getting on the new year resolution of digital detox. Like I said earlier, for me, I can only learn to balance it.
Again, while it's fun packed connecting with people from different parts of the world and building friendships, we should not lose sight of people in our immediate physical environment.

With balancing life and patronising a digital detox, a time for dinner should be a time for dinner and unless it's an emergency, one shouldn't fondle with their phone or be seen on the screen while they should be eating and enjoying their meal with family.
More so, streamlining one's online activities to things of value is another effective method I'd like to tag a digital detox. It's not enough that we are online but what value creation are we building there? What already existing value creation are we tuning into there to be part of the growth process? Does it really serve? Because if it doesn't, then it's toxins and needing a digital detox.
