There are many things that are trending in my country, but the one that interests me is the growing conversation around artificial intelligence and how it has changed people's work and communication. Currently now not only technology experts and big companies talk about artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence has become part of our everyday life, more especially had to choose one trend in Nigeria that gets my attention, it would beong the younger ones that are looking for a way to earn money in the internet space by creating content and improving their skills.
You may ask why this particular trend interests me. You need to see how quickly people are learning to use artificial intelligence as a tool. They are not seeing it as something complicated; people are using it to learn, design, edit pictures, write, and so on. I just noticed something: the use of artificial intelligence by content creators is increasing day by day. Some of the content creators may not have money to get expensive equipment; with the help of artificial intelligence, they can be able to achieve that. A graphic designer can use artificial intelligence to create attractive designs. A student can use artificial intelligence to understand a difficult question. One thing about this artificial intelligence is that you can access it anytime; that's why it is trending.
From this trend, I have gotten to know that technology is only useful to the person using it. Artificial intelligence has made a lot of things easier. The honest truth is it can’t replace human creativity, judgment, responsibility, and so on. There are people that are using artificial intelligence in a positive way, such as reading, doing research, designing, and so on. There are also people who will use it in a negative way to create fake content, to spread misinformation, and so on.
Another thing I have got to realize is that change is constant, and we can’t keep resisting that the world is changing every day. Currently now it seems like everything is digital; that is why people should be willing to learn new skills. There is a possibility that when opportunity comes, they will benefit from it rather than those who completely ignore the existence of new technology. I don’t mean to imply that everyone will become a technology expert. What it simply means is that we should be ready to learn new tools that are becoming relevant in our daily lives.
At the same time, I advise that we should be careful of how we completely depend on artificial intelligence. Currently, people must allow AI to do the thinking for them and forget that there is a big difference between artificial intelligence thinking and that of a human. For some like me, I combine the two together. Artificial intelligence can provide suggestions, but human beings still ask questions, make decisions, and verify information.
With this trend, I get to know that learning never ends. If I am to choose one trend in Nigeria that gets my attention, it is the rise of AI and the way people are learning to use it.
