A few days ago, I discovered the CoinMarketCap app thanks to a recommendation from @yecier, and from there, I have been expanding my perception of the crypto world around #hive. With a little observation, some trends become obvious, although the underlying mechanisms still largely escape me.

The first thing I discovered was the obvious: the price of HIVE and also its market capitalization closely follow those of Bitcoin. There is a certain degree of freedom, but over a 30-day range, the correlation is obvious. It follows that when this correlation is broken, it is because there is an underlying phenomenon altering the trend.

Those underlying phenomena that alter the trend of following BTC's behavior could be buys and sells by the most significant players on #hive. I suppose if one of those bigger fishes buys or sells a hundred thousand HIVE on the market, it will create waves in the pond. This is possible because #hive has a (relatively) low market capitalization and daily trading volume.

Now let's look at the price behavior of HIVE over a 90-day range. After a peak between July 18th and 26th came the fall, and then the price rebound arc is visible without much imaginative effort, with a striking drop towards the last part of the curve after September 11th.

The degree of freedom in HIVE's movements compared to other cryptocurrencies can be seen by comparing its price evolution against Bitcoin and Ethereum, the leaders of the crypto market.

Here we see that neither HIVE's peak (between July 18th and 26th) nor its fall (after September 11th) have analogous movements in Bitcoin. That is, they are most likely movements due to internal mechanics of the Hive ecosystem.

Here, however, we see that HIVE's peak (between July 18th and 26th) has no analogue in Ethereum, but the fall (after September 11th) did. This means the peak was most likely due to internal mechanics, but the fall was perhaps due to external market influences.

Hive is a Blockchain with many unique characteristics that provide it with a certain resilience against market fluctuations, in addition to its own intrinsic value that (I believe) has yet to become fully visible in all its magnitude and implications.

To close this already too-long post, my conclusions are as follows:

  • A rise (or fall) in Bitcoin (or other market leaders, like Ethereum) has the capacity to pull HIVE along, especially in the short term.
  • In the long term, it should be Hive's own characteristics that translate into market valuation.
  • Hive has its own demons and the occasional rodent willing to abandon ship, which is entirely natural and logical. What would be illogical would be to expect blind loyalty in spite of monetary/commercial interests.
  • I am concerned about the trend of decoupling from Bitcoin's overall dynamics observed since September 11th (see the first image in this post).
  • Hive needs to attract new users who maintain long-term loyalty. This is difficult due to certain internal tendencies, some of which are related to the Blockchain aspect, while others are related to the sometimes toxic aspect of its social network component.

Now it's your turn. Tell me your opinions and forecasts in the comments, and above all, don't hold back when it comes to educating me one way or another. I look forward to your feedback.
