1994 science fiction film A.P.E.X., despite its low budget, was among the first to display potentials of emerging CGI technology. The plot begins in 2073, when the time travelling experiment goes disastrously wrong, causing the automatic deployment of killer robots programmed to destroy anything or everyone that could create time paradox. Protagonist, played by Richard Keats, is scientist that had led experiment, now transported into alternative universe where the remnants of mankind fight both against the robots and deadly virus unleashed a hundred years ago. Despite looking like a cheap copy of Terminator, this film features excellent cinematography and special effects that were quite impressive for its time. Another asset, apart from capable direction by Philip J. Roth, is a relatively unknown, but solid cast.
