Hahaha..... If I could do that, that is build a Time Machine that would take me to any period I wished, I wouldn't hesitate to travel back in Time, to that era of innocence and simplicity. An era when though there was no electricity or any elaborate source of power at night, our oil lamps, Moonlights and Stars shining from up above, were enough sources of illumination.
I would travel back to an era when though there were no TVs or fancy electrical appliances in the house (or rather huts), we were just content with gathering most evenings, beneath the yellow Moon for some good old tales and fables.
An era when every meal was made from the “scratch”, not from frozen dinners which had overstayed in the freezer or some over-processed canned food, but meals prepared from farm-fresh produce, free from chemical contaminants.

Most tasks we do with Hi-Tech appliances today, we did by hand, we cooked with firewood, we drank cool water from clay pots, fetched from a Spring where fresh water flowed from the rocks, our drinks were not laced with sweeteners and preservatives but herbal drinks with lots of nutritional and health benefits.
Back to the era where brotherhood and communal living thrived and we could go out anytime of the day or night, our only dread being maybe wild animals, not wild humans as it is today.

If I could use a time machine, I would prefer to go back to an era when Papa worked to provide for his family while Mama stayed at home, to build the home, to train her children on becoming beautiful people, a very sound upbringing as against children being left all alone by themselves today, and are growing up to become clueless and worthless, children who worked with their hands, did things instead of sitting on the couch all day, watching useless videos, or wasting their time playing video games and getting obese.
I crave the balance of roles, with the father providing and the mother nurturing, reflecting a society deeply rooted in familial bonds and traditions. Today’s world, with its too many conveniences, lacks warmth and closeness.

To the bygone era. Yes back to the era of simplicity and authenticity.

I would have chosen the future machine but for one thing; today what I see leaves me with no hope for mankind or for the future, nations, in their quest for dominance and security, have stockpiled enough weapons to erase the very planet they seek to protect. Technologies acting as a two-edged sword, bettering lives and destroying lives at the same time. It's a give and take situation and I feel that our future hangs precariously on a balance.

A lot of things have changed, some for good, some for the worst and when I look at what the world has become, it's a far cry from the cocoon of safety I once enjoyed. I choose backward in time and for many a good reasons because there are many things about the future that I would never never never approve of, the world is steered in the wrong direction, some technological innovations yes, makes life easier, yes but why do I prefer safety, community, happiness, discipline, simplicity, nature wild and free, natural-ness? It is because technology has taken more than it has given, we just don’t know what we will get but It feels like there’s more wisdom in the past, where balance and purpose came from the land, community, and shared values rather than the pursuit of power or technological dominance.

And you know what? No matter how primitive the past might have seemed, If my Time Machine took me there, I would crash it, because I wouldn't want to change a thing, I would remain in the past, before the future came.
