There was a time when the concept of decentralized finance and liquidity pools was a hot take in the crypto space. We had tons of investors heap praise and label it the investment of the future. A few preached caution, but the majority definitely did not bother to listen. Fast forward a few years into the future and a lot of liquidity pools are laden with problems, some have crashed completely while it seems like the community has simply moved on.
Some of the biggest issues facing the adoption of Defi has been a lack of interest from investors, and low rate of adoption. Even the initial investors who might have started the project with much enthusiasm seem to have moved on. Defi certainly seems to have punched above its weight in that regard, which is sustaining user interest. Of course the big question is why users moved on so quickly, and to be honest there was movement around the entire crypto space as investor confidence dipped last year and went back to the fundamentals of BTC.
One thing I liked about the concept of Defi and liquidity pools were the potential to bring about stability in terms of ROI. Crypto is very unpredictable, and for users to develop long term interest, or for it to attract mass interest there has to be the promise of a stable future. Nobody likes uncertainty per se, even though some people see it as a period to make the greatest returns. Unfortunately the promised stability did not happen as value crashed for most of the projects so badly that investors sustained heavy losses irrespective of the returns they got.
The big question now is if Defi has a role to play in the future. Have investors permanently moved on from the concept? It won't be the first time that it were to happen as users as we have seen quite a bit of crypto concepts lose momentum and steem over time. What remains possible though is that there is a permanent migration from the concept as users adjust their crypto strategies. Things like NFTs have taken a hit in the past and it might take something major in order for them to come full circle. Perhaps a new innovation or solution powered by Defi is the way forward to get us all thinking and talking about it once again. I also figure that NFTs have huge potential in gaming and perhaps that will be its resurrection. Defi experts certainly could identify a niche which it could power and be responsible for.
Not everyone had given up on the concept though. Some major crypto projects including our leofinance still believe in the concept. That may be insufficient to pull in mass adoption, but certainly sufficient to keep believers of the leofinance community believing in the concept. A project might be revived by an unlikely source and Defi is no different. Sometimes the success of its primary project might sufficiently rub off on it and expand its Ability to grow. There isn't also much risk to keeping the faith now, especially as a recent investor. We can either lose next to nothing or gain something very large.
