History should be a subject everyone will value because it tells us more about the past, even when we are not there we can relate to what happened some years back, history should never be neglected in society or the education sector, in my country we value history more than the present.
Most subjects we are learning in the university are the outcome of history, I studied geology in school and most of it is based on history, things that happened billion years ago, and we can relate with the present, how rocks are formed, and the geochronology of it.
There is one particular course that only talks about the history of geology, how we came across geology, the ages of rocks, and how many years they have been formed, in this course, we are talking about the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, Cambrian, and Precambrian eras, all these mentioned above have their specific age and it ranges from million to billion, it teaches about Earth's evolution only a geologist can relate with it.
History should be a course we should value, history gives us more details about the past, even in our daily life there are things that we heard from our parents and it still affects the city or town up till now.
There is a river in my village that women could never fetch from, no woman could go near the river, I asked my grandmother about the history behind it because no woman had ever gone to that river, and she narrated the history to me, the reason why women can never go near the river, she said there was a time that any woman who goes to the river will be missing, while this isn't happening to the men, I heard that it happened to several women and they decided to ban all the women in the village not to go near the river again and it became a history till date.
I hadn't seen any woman who goes near the river since I went to my village, this was a history that I learned from, though no one knows the reason why the woman was missing maybe people were kidnapping them or the mermaid was the one camping them, but for the safety of every woman in the village no one dares go near the river and from what I heard is that the river is still there and men can go there but it is a taboo for any woman to go near the river.
We learn from history both the ones that are real and fake, most people never joke about history, there is a history behind anything we see in the world and that is why it is very important to know more about it, there is much history behind the most statue in most states and every state has their history which can lead to rules and regulations of the state.
There is a history behind every taboo we hear today, something may have triggered what brings about the taboo which we must learn about so that it will direct and govern us anywhere we find ourselves.
Most people who studied language in the university, especially in Nigerian universities know more about history, history is a course on its own in most Nigerian universities and it helps in knowing more about our culture or past events or other things that happened in the world million years ago.
History is very important in the education sector, it sharpens our knowledge about the past and how to avoid some of it that needs to be avoided, also the ones who can benefit us should not be overlooked.
This is my response to today's episode of the hivelearners community prompt of #hl-w139e1 which the topic is tagged "IS HISTORY IMPORTANT"
