How the week runs by so quickly, I can remember just the other day it was Monday, and today it’s Thursday already, in all we are grateful to be alive.
Prices of goods and services are always soaring but what can one do about the situation if not to live through it?
At this point, I believe we are all tired of complaining, the best thing we have to do is to continue working extra hard to survive. How are you holding up so far and how has life been for you in the last few months? Do you look forward to things getting better in the coming
months or it’s the other way around?
My experience yesterday contributed to making me participate in this week's prompt.
It hasn’t been a jolly ride this year especially economically, it has been
from one issue to another, while we’re trying to get used to or adapt to one economic challenge another spring up without any warning, it’s tiring!
At my workplace, we have staff buses for different routes within the city, so you get to join the bus that plies the area closest to where you live.
I live in the city of Lagos in Nigeria, one of the busiest cities in Nigeria, if not even the busiest, recently, (or not so recently even, because it’s been over four months now) the bus that plies my area had some technical issues, simply put the engine got bad, and since it’s a government establishment where approvals for things have to pass
through different offices, the bus still hasn’t been fixed up till now and it has been a real hassle.
Luckily for me, a senior colleague of mine lives a bit close to my house, so I usually follow him to work every morning. On the days he has other engagements to attend to, I am usually at the mercy
of myself. It wouldn’t really have been an issue if I lived close to my workplace, the thing is I don’t live so close to it (the reason being that the city is segmented, and there are areas where the cost of accommodation is over the moon, while there are those with moderate accommodations and the part where my office is, is one of those highbrow
areas).
So to the main reason why I am writing this post, there’s been an increase in fuel scarcity and it’s been really difficult for motorists to fuel their vehicles, most people have to leave their cars in queues at night and return the next day to see if they can be able to get fuel. This whole ordeal has led to a tremendous hike in transport fares, some fares have
doubled.
Yesterday my colleague had some other engagement and he didn’t go to the office, so I had to find my way to work. Places where I usually
paid between N500 – N600 now cost between N1000 - N1200. I was so pained yesterday, and I began to think, if my colleague wasn’t dropping me off, how much would I spend on transportation to and from work every day?
The area of foodstuffs is another different issue, you get to go to the market every day and find out that what you bought yesterday has doubled the price the next day and it doesn't end there as everyone in the market sell at the same amount.
Someone once casually said that necessities are gradually turning to luxury, when she said it I laughed about it, but thinking about it now, I think I agree with her. Because the basic things that we need as human beings are coming at ridiculously high prices making it difficult for the common man to survive. Sometimes I wonder how large families are surviving in these times because even as a single lady who don’t really have so many people to cater for, the heat of the economy is hitting me, talk more of these families, how are they surviving???
In all I still have a positive mindset for my nation and the world, things will eventually get better, but it might take a while, but it sure will get better, when it will happen, I have no idea, but I am optimistic😃
How are things over at your end, how’s the economic situation, is it hitting as hard or is
it just mild, feel free to drop your comments about the economic situation of the nation
or region where you are.
