People volunteer so much of their time online to activities that enrich others, but not themselves.
I guess that's where we have different definitions about what enrichment means.
Someone may gladly give up monetary gains to be able to connect with family members or friends who moved to different corners of the world. But if you can do both, would you say no? Looks like many do. To be honest, I'd hate to see fights in the family or among close friends for the size of the upvotes they receive from the close ones compared to other friends or relatives. :)
Others may trade their time to:
- be entertained
- get educated
- learn how to make money
- follow popular people and "live" through their experiences
- etc.
But recently people started to have another hobby online... Using various AI tools.
We, humans, always loved new toys and we often abandon old toys for the new ones.
We like that the AI makes things easier for us or we like to test it and see how smart it really is. Or to prove that we are still smarter.
Are we scared? Some of us are, but in the end curiosity will prevail. We were once scared of fire too. We should still be. And fire isn't smart.
With every interaction we have with an AI (or with each other where AIs are watching), we give them more data to train on. And they get better and better every day.
Making these AI tools free for small scale usage is the smartest thing the companies behind them could do. Get their AIs trained for the cost of keeping them running and available publicly.
Many of us understand how Web 2 giants take advantage of their users. But only a minority actually wants to do something about it and move on to Web 3.
The problem is Web 3 is not only cryptocurrency. And even from the crypto protocols and projects, few want to go a separate way, and many want back to the mainstream.
Part of Web 3 will also be AI, alongside other technologies. Some of us may want to move in a different direction than the centralized and siloed Web 2 only to reach a Web 3 where we'll have more of the same giant tech companies behind the top AI that will dominate the market and will probably make things worse than Web 2 as we knew it before AI became a trend.
Can anyone choose the right path, whatever that means or will mean in the future?
