As we start the new year with new ambitious, new wishes, new hopes, and new journeys, we may also want to take a look at the previous year and see how we did. In this post I would like to take a look at Hive content rewards distribution for 2023. Hive network's economy is bigger than just content rewards. There are block producer rewards, there are Decentralize Hive Fund payments, HBD interest payments, Hive interest, and many layer two token distributions. Content rewards is one of Hive's unique features. Anybody can participate and benefit from content rewards, either as authors or curators.
In 2023 Hive blockchain distributed total of $6,344,255 in content rewards. This is significantly lower than previous years. In 2022 this number was $10,750,433. This may have to do with the lower price of Hive in 2023 compared to previous years. Still rewards are in millions. Out of $6,344,255 total content rewards, $2,564,835 were author rewards and $3,779,420 were curation rewards. Normally content rewards are split 50/50 between author and curation rewards. However there seems to be a big discrepancy here. It could be due to due burning Hive, beneficiaries, or maybe even downvotes. Significant portion of content rewards are distributed through communities. Hive communities continue to play an important role not only in growing the network, building tools, but also distributing rewards, driving engagement, and encouraging participation. Hive Communities distributed total of $4,887,430 content rewards, of which $2,335,760 were author rewards and $2,551,670 were curation rewards.
While numbers are lower than previous years, I believe and hope 2024 will be a great year for crypto overall and Hive will reclaim its true value and continue to appreciate in value. This will result in value distributed on Hive to appreciate as well. Now let's take a look at value distribution numbers by communities in 2023.
