There are so many things in the world beyond human understanding, and I believe that no matter how much we try, there are mysteries we will never be able to solve.
Sometimes in 2019, I was going through my daily work routine at Sabo market when I heard some women talking about a man who sells petty things in the market. According to them, the man vanished one fateful day immediately after a woman claimed that she knew him from the village.
The woman said the man died in a bike accident many years ago, and the market women started pondering over the story when the man was never seen in the market again. Isn’t that a living wraith? I was really interested in the story because I’ve heard similar stories, but no one recorded a video or anything as proof. Does that mean, because there’s no proof, all these stories are cooked?
During my time as a teacher, there was a cleaner in my school who shared an experience. Her mother had died but she wasn't aware because it wasn't the phone era. She said her mother visited her and even spent some time at her place before messengers from their village came to break the news.
She said it all happened like a dream and a lot of people thought she was crazy but some elders said the old woman only came to say goodbye because she loves her daughter a lot.
There are so many strange things happening in the world that sound impossible but might be possible. Just because something hasn’t happened to us or anyone around us doesn’t mean it can’t happen.
This reminds me of a time when I had to go to my ponds at midnight because of unstable electricity. Power was restored at that time, and I needed to change the pond water.
On my way back that same midnight after completing the work, I felt like something collided with my shoulder. I turned back, wondering if someone had walked past me, but it was just me on the road. Upon getting home, one of my eyes hurt, and it had swollen badly. It was hurting so much that I had to call my mom immediately because it didn't feel natural even though a doctor might have an explanation for hurting eyeball. We prayed, and she warned me never to walk at that time of night, explaining that the collision I felt might not be ordinary.
I know some things are hard to believe just because our religion disapproves of them or science doesn’t have an explanation for them, but still, we can’t totally write off some things.
What if reincarnation is one of the mysteries we just can’t solve, and it’s left to individuals to believe or not?
I respect people’s beliefs and do not condemn them, even though it hasn’t happened around me, but I am certain that not everyone can lie about one thing. If everyone lied about these strange things, what’s in it for them? Why would they lie about things that aren’t logical, like someone who died and still lives in their old body?
Science believes reincarnation is completely impossible, and that’s why some of us conclude it’s impossible, while as Christians, the scripture says in Hebrews 9:27 that “just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,” meaning there is no room for reincarnation—once the soul departs a body, it’s game over.
What if science had an explanation for this? What if our religion didn’t disapprove of it? Would we still believe that reincarnation is true or not, even though we haven’t witnessed it?
What Am I Driving At?
The human experience is a complex one, and our encounters with the paranormal can be quite fascinating and really disturbing. While science and religion have different perspectives about reincarnation, I can confidently say that there are still so many things we don’t understand.
So, embracing the uncertainty of reincarnation and other paranormal events can lead to a deeper understanding of those stories and testimonies out there if we put sentiment aside.
