In my previous posts, I've mentioned times without number the importance of having more than one skill. The need to broaden one's knowledge and excell in different areas. Doing this will give us an edge in this world of great competition. What now happens when these skills are too many?
I type this question from a very personal place. I as a person have up to like 4skils and its killing me having them. Sometimes I wish I don't have some talents and don't know how to do some certain things. This is because it's difficult to do them all and even far more difficult to let go of some. At that point, one will be at a crossroad and not knowing what to do. This has actually been affecting me for months now. People see me and admire the things I could do because I try to be best in those different areas. What they don't knownis it's very difficult. I make bags and shoes, I draw digitally and traditionally, I'm a blogger here on hive and right now I'm even learning Web development.
I'm someone that don't like to stay where I was before. I love to progress and move forward but these skills are tending to be a disadvantages in a way. When you have too many skills, it's difficult to reach a full potential in any of them. As a bag and shoe maker, I can be excellent if I dedicate a 100percent attention to it. Same with my art and same with my blogging here. But I have to combine them all and share the time within them.
At that point, the only solution left is to let go of some skills. I did let go of bag making and shoe making but I miss it every single day. It's like I'm not doing something right and I need to get back to it. Also all the expenses I've spent on perfecting my bag and shoe making skills are likely to go to waste.
Due to these reasons, I think it's best not to have too many skills. You can choose one or two and perfect it. Be the top notch person in that field unlike no other. Whatever is worth doing, it's worth doing best. Don't make my same mistake, be you and perfect your skills.
