ff.jpg The world's largest beautiful parliament building, as well as Hungary's largest building. Parliament House in Hungary.

Two years ago, in the month of September, we visited Budapest. I had previously shared some posts about our travels here. Today, I am glad to share a few more memories from that trip. It's not easy to understand a totally different culture and history. I tried different sources to find the names and some significance of the monuments.
In this post, our visit to the Parliament House.

Having a hotel in the heart of the city made it easy to get anywhere in the surrounding town. We tried to explore as many attractions as possible.
One day we planned to visit the parliament, but because of the flood, a few trams and the underground system were stopped. Most tourists were using the hop-on, hop-off service, as we did.
The parliament building and the campus were beautiful; it was around 9.30 am. The area was full of people. Not only tourists, but locals were also curious to visit the place because of the flood, as it was Sunday.

2b1.jpg The statue of Ferenc Rákóczi II has been standing on the north side of the parliament building, very close to the underground metro station Kossuth Lajos ter. 2b.jpg The huge Gothic architecture stands very proudly on the bank of the River Danube. The building was shining in the sun, making it more attractive. 2b3.jpg Kossuth Square and the large national flagpole and the Hungarian flag waving in front of the Parliament building. 2b4.jpg The entrance of the building, visitors are allowed inside only as part of an official guided tour. Independent or free walk-in exploration is not permitted. Ticket sales are online, which we didn't know about. For that day, tickets were sold out. So we missed the chance. 2b5.jpg The building is definitely very beautifully carved and built. It is the largest building in Hungary and one of the largest parliament buildings in the world. Used 19 years to construct, costing around 7.66 million dollars, with ca. 1000 labored on-site constantly, and 100,000 people contributing to the project.(Information from different sources) 1b.jpg At the south side of the Parliament Building an attractive bronze statue of Count Gyula Andrassy, riding a horse, who served as Hungary’s first Prime Minister. It stands in that square, among other historical figures on the base. They said those are monumental highlights of political life, including Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth as King and Queen of Hungary 2b6.jpg The scene immortalizes June 8, 1867, following the Austro-Hungarian Compromise, with several historical figures. The original statue was destroyed in 1945 and later reconstructed and opened in 2016 2b7.jpg 2b13.jpg The statue of Count Istvan Tisza, a twice-serving Prime Minister of Hungary. Located in the surrounding area. 2b15.jpg One side of the Istvan Tisza statue. The group representing farmers and agricultural workers. 2b14 (2).jpg These figures, together with the statue of Istvan Tisza, are allegorical representations of society, labor, and public life surrounding the central memorial 2b8,.jpg 2b8.jpg 2b9.jpg 2b10.jpg 2b11.jpg After a stroll around the parliament house, we came towards the riverside. The river was flowing vigorously with lots of water; some sections of the road were totally underwater. And the fence of the parliament building looked like we were standing on the bridge.

We moved farther to the south side of the Parliament House

2ba.jpg We walked through the big white marble stone sculpture. In the central standing figure of Kossuth surrounded by members of his first independent Hungarian government and symbolic relief figures, and the other side 2b18.jpg 2b19.jpg A large limestone/marble sculpture group and architectural monument dedicated to Lajos Kossuth and the 1848 Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence. 2b20.jpg 2b21.jpg From a distance, it looks very beautiful. 2b22a.jpg

The front of the building flows freshwater into a small canal. That gives it an artistic look from a distance. After enjoying the walk around this beautiful House of Parliament, I tried to understand a little history about it, but I was more impressed by the beautiful town and its culture. I admire this place.

20240921_111716.jpg Then we moved to our next destination. See you in the next post. Thank you for now.
