Murder.
Who would have imagined that such a man could be capable of such an act—an act that has led to unfulfilled life and unfulfilled promises—but did he hold any regrets?.
Ethan Wilson was a perfectionist in the medical field; he was so good in his field that he was known for what he did. A medical surgeon. But one wrong move had caused him everything he ever had. Who would have thought holding onto your morals would be problematic at the end of the day?
Ethan had refused to kill a patient who was under his care; it turns out his patient's political partners were not on the same page as him, so erasing his existence from the face of the earth was better. Since the doctor refused, he was framed, and his patient was killed. He was then accused of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, leaving his pregnant wife all alone.
It was so confusing how life threw him off balance, depressed, alone, and raged. He had to face a crime he had even refused to commit. But 10 years into his punishment, he had done something that had caught the eyes of many and blossomed a little hope in his heart.
He saved the life of a person who came back to save his. He had little to no knowledge of who this person was—something people would have just left the strange-looking man to have died from a heart attack—but Ethan, using his medical skills, was able to save the man. A man who had so much connection that he was able to give Ethan a chance to live once more—that man's name was Robert Simeon, one of the richest billionaires in the country at that time.
Who would have thought after Robert Simeon was released he would have taken Ethan’s case seriously as much as finding out the reason why he was sentenced to life imprisonment, after getting the best lawyers on the case who were able to dig up some vital informations, informations that lead to Ethan's release, something he never would have imagined was possible, came to him like a surprise, he was called out of his prison that fateful day, they told him to get his stuff that he was free, it felt like he was dreaming, he had cried his eyes out when he found out what height Robert Simeon had went for him to be released and for his name to be restored, not just that he was given a large sum of money to go start his life all over again.
All his dreams, the lost hope, the fear, the anxiety, the depression—even his life—were back on track. He felt free, renewed, relieved, and excited. Even now, his last hope was to return to his family. He was just 24 when everything was taken away from him. At the age of 34, he had a daughter, who was 10 at most. He wanted to be her dad, and he wanted to be a husband. He wanted his home and family back.
“If you think for one minute I will let you go to school without finishing your breakfast, then you're so wrong, Michael!” A woman's voice heard, she was beyond stressed with those black bags under her eyes, he looked older than her age, but she was as beautiful as the first day Ethan fall in love with her, Margaret was Ethan first crush, first love, first girl and his wife, when he was sentenced to prison, she was just 3 months pregnant, she would come for visits every time to see him, she was told she was having a baby girl, something Ethan was proud and happy about, but after a short while Margaret stopped coming, she stopped visiting and calling and that disturbed Ethan greatly, infact that was part of why he was mostly depressed, he often wondered if his wife had moved on, of course who won't, was she ready to throw her life by waiting for him, what a joke, He loved Margaret enough to let her live her life but he just wanted to be part of his kid's life, even if Margaret had moved on.
So he was shocked when he saw a little boy, yet his mind was prepared for the worst: could it be her son with her new lover? He remembered that they were expecting a girl, right?.
“Michelle, are you done!? We're running late, and I need to get to work. I have a lot to do.” Margaret said she was too focused on arranging the kid's lunch box to have noticed the man outside looking at her like she was the center of his universe.
“Mom! I'm done!” A little girl said, “Me too, Mom, can we go now?.” The little boy was around the same age as the girl.
"Oh, would you look at that? I was the one asking you guys to hurry up; now you want to switch, like I'm the one making you guys late.” Margaret laughed as she helped the kids put on their school bags.
They all rushed out of the front door like they were running from something, which Ethan found really cute and funny. Margaret was rushing to lock the door; the kids were the first to notice him. If Ethan didn't know his looks that well, he'd say these two little rascals were carbon copies of him, with green eyes and light brown hair with a little string of gold on the brown. And that's when he realized that these were his kids.
Margaret turned just to be met with the most unexpected face—someone she thought she wouldn't ever see again. But there he was, looking at her with his heart in his eyes, holding a bouquet of red roses, her favorite. It felt like time stopped as both their eyes met.
“Mommy, why does he look like Daddy?" Michelle asked pretty fast, catching on; she was pretty smart for her age. That question seems to have snapped them out of their own world.
“That's because he is your daddy.” Margaret could see the relief on Ethan's face. “How? How did you? Am I dreaming?.” Margaret asked as the tears came running down her cheeks. And that melted Ethan's heart as he pulled her into a very tight hug.
"Shhh, Mamie, I'm back; that's all that matters; I'm back to stay forever.”
“I thought I would never see you again. I kept coming with the kids when they were born, but they wouldn't allow me to see you or reach you. I missed you so much. I thought I was going to die without you by my side.”
Ethan couldn't be any happier. “So they are both mine?.” He asked timidly.
“Yes! Of course they are yours; did you doubt me? I thought I was having a girl, but it turned out I was carrying twins. I found out about Michael when he was born. I thought I would never see you again.” Margaret sobbed.
“Daddy! Daddy!!” The kids kept screaming for attention. Ethan looked down at his kids as he picked them up. He couldn't believe he had missed 10 years of their lives, but that was over now; he had them; he had a family.
“You were the only thing that kept my hope alive even when I wanted to give up; you kept me hoping for a better life. Thank you, Mamie, for being strong for me while I wasn't there and for being strong for both of us. I love you so much.” Ethan hugged his family, planting kisses everywhere his lips touched his kids faces and his wife.
Margaret laughed even though she was in tears; you could see the glow in her smile. The little family hugging in front of their house was the most gorgeous sight ever.
