MAGI OF CHAOS is a favorite card I use often use when opting for a magic attack. At level 1 it has magic damage of 2 which is fairly strong enough before considering upgrading it.
As seen above from level 3 it gains extra magic damage, when maxed out it gains the Oppress ability with magic damage of 4.

QUIX THE DEVIOUS with a -1 Range attack and Speed was my opponent's summoner. For additional Magic power, I opted for DELWYN DRAGONSCALE with +1 Magic on friendly monsters.
Being a back to basics ruleset I opted for CHAOS KNIGHT to lead the frontline because of the 3 Armor it has in addition to Health which in this battle the initial health of all monsters is equal to that of the opposing side as well. So should my opponent be attacking with Range or Melee it will have to get rid of the Armor first.
TIME MEDDLEER in second place with 4 Armor is of benefit against Melee and Range attacks with Magic damage of 2, it gains additional magic from the summoner for extra power.
In the third spot is LIGHT ELEMENTAL the speed is fairly impressive at 3, with Flight ability lost in this battle just like every other monster losing their abilities all they have to do is attack each round so speed does count in a ruleset of this kind.
BILA THE RADIANT takes up the fourth spot, also with Magic damage of 2 it gains extra magic power form DELWYN DRAGONSCALE. You probably might have noticed my opponent ignored the battle ruleset, CELESTIAL HARPY should have been in the lineup as it was a waste of space, it can't attack until it gets to the frontline. I wish for more errors of this kind so I can take advantage but it is not always like this. So let's look at my next lineup below.
Up next was DJINN RENOVA in fifth place, it comes in with a speed of 3.

In the backline was MAGI OF CHAOS a Neutral card in alliance with Life Splinter that wreaked havoc on the enemy and victory was mine.
