HELLO HIVE
Writers block is the nightmare of writers, it disconnects you from what you are writing making the topic feel so strange to you like you weren't the one who came up with it 😭.
Whether you are a blogger, a journalist, or creative writer, there are times when words don't flow and it feels like we are stranded on an island all on our own without any way back or another illustration is like being stuck in a glass where all you see is a reflection of yourself and nothing else.

This problem has a huge effect on writers growth since consistent is supposed to be the key to growing an audience, but the good the good thing is that writers block is actually a temporary thing and not permanent, although the time frame 😔 actually differs from person to person, and the way we handle it is also different.
We just have to be conscious that it is a temporary roadblock that will be overcome using the right strategies.
Common Causes of Writer’s Block?
There are so many precise causes of writer's block, and to be able to come straight out of that mirror, we need to understand what the cause was in the first place; that way, we can come up with a proper solution to it.
I will share some common causes that I have personally experienced so that we can help ourselves out of this so we can become better writers because I see writer's block as a big hindrance to becoming a better writer.
There are different kinds of writing, but the main one that's uniquely affected by writer's block is the creative kind of writing, where everything or almost everything you are writing was imagined and captured in our minds before we even started writing anything down.
Distraction
The first common cause for me is distractions, and that's why I almost try to hide somewhere when writing because the moment I am pulled out of it, then I struggle to get back into that mood. Distractions make it very hard to focus when writing; it's just like when you are reading. That's why we have libraries, where it's supposed to be quiet, where you can put in your utmost concentration without any form of distraction.
Stress and burnout
Writers do better when they have the whole day to themselves in a quiet environment, not after a hectic day where you're struggling to keep your eyes open and your feet on the ground that you decide to write ✍️ because the body would be so tired that the brain is disconnected and totally begging for rest.
Overthinking 🤔 and lack of inspiration
This one is very easy to understand because you are trying so hard to focus on what you are writing, which ought to be your main focus at that point, but instead your mind is wandering away every chance it gets, and I wrote "overthinking and lack of inspiration together because I believe one leads to another; mostly lack of inspiration is as a result of overthinking.
You might not completely understand what you are actually thinking about that's causing the distractions because it mostly comes as a fragment of different thoughts all at once.
I have been caught in this so many times I have even lost count because I can be easily distracted 😭. Sometimes I just end up abandoning that particular post halfway through it because I have been disconnected from it completely, and there's no way back in at that time, so what I do is start a fresh topic, change the environment, and try to focus as much as I can.
Some actionable strategies for me are to
-
Change the environment.
Change your writing environment first if you are stuck while you are writing completely, even if I can't pinpoint the cause of it.
-
writing prompts
It helps a lot; you can see from my blog that some of my best writing for someone who had no prior skills are actually prompts from communities like #inleo that keep us active with so many interesting prompts that attract our minds to beautiful topics from the prompts.
-
Take a break and also develop your own personal writing routine.
It's very important as a writer to do this: don't get stuck in it for too long and also have a routine time to write.
Most times I try to push through but in the end you find out that our mind is stronger than we think it is.
You can also join the #inleo daily prompts, especially if you want to over today's topic and become a better writer. The link below has all you need to come out of that mirror
