Some time ago, I read about the Hive Power Up Day and Hive Power Up Month events that are held monthly by @traciyork and @hivebuzz but missed the opportunity to do so last month since I was still relatively new. This time around, I decided that I wouldn't miss these events and would try my hand at participating, especially for the Hive Power Up Month which is substantially much harder to complete.

If you've been around Hive for a while, you probably already know about #hivepud - the rules are simple: just power up at least 10 HIVE on the first of each month!

In December, I accumulated quite a bit of HBD through author rewards with the thought of converting them to Hive when the dip inevitably comes around. And sure it did - 1 Hive was trading at about $1.70 a month ago and is now trading at slightly less than a dollar.

As the price of Hive fell, I started converting small amounts of my HBD into Hive, powering up as I went along. And as the days ticked nearer towards Feb 1, I decided to withdraw some of my HBD savings to do a larger power-up for today!

In just one fell swoop, I increased my HP by 22% - from 583HP to 715HP! I wrote in an earlier post that one of my Hive goals for this year was to increase my HP to 2000 - this is just one step in that direction, with a HP total of 713 after the power-up. And I get to get a shiny badge from HiveBuzz as well!

I'm not expecting to win any large prizes from the #hivepud event since I'm not doubling my HP, but it sure would be nice if I got some HP delegations so I can support more people in the ecosystem!

The Hive Power Up Month is a totally different monster - to get the Hive Power Up Month badge, you'll have to post at least 1 post every day of the month and set the rewards distribution of the post to 100% Hive Power. Alternatively, you could also power up at least 1 Hive as a replacement for posting.

While I don't consider myself to be an avid writer, I somehow managed to post on 30 of the 31 days in January. Admittedly, the incentives on Hive do play a part in getting me to post continually, but I also find the engagement from the community equally rewarding, knowing that people do read my writing. I do believe in the Hive ecosystem and its potential to be great, so I'll be trying my best to fulfill this challenge this month and accumulate more HP along the way.

At the same time, I also hope that my post quality doesn't drop just because I'm posting daily. Sometimes, it can be hard to find interesting and engaging things to write about, but I'll leave that worry for the future me ๐Ÿ˜‚

A small issue that I'm facing is that the LeoFinance frontend somehow doesn't set reward payouts to 100% HP even after setting it manually at the Publish stage. I'm not entirely sure of the reason why, but I'll probably try to save a few Hive for those days that I'm posting on the LeoFinance frontend just to be safe.

Coincidentally, today's also the first day of the Lunar New Year, which is a pretty big thing where I stay. Over here in Singapore, the Lunar New Year definitely is much more celebrated as compared to the Gregorian New Year - extended families come together, people dress up nicely, and red packets containing money are given (mostly to younger children) to usher in a new year of good luck and fortune.

And it's also another coincidence that the Hive logo is red, which is traditionally considered an auspicious color in Chinese tradition. Hoping that my 2022 on Hive will be fruitful and interesting - looking forward to becoming more active in this ecosystem!
