Let’s say I’m opportune tomorrow to become a leader in the government of my country, and I have the power bestowed upon me to put things in good positions and chase away the wrongdoings in the country — do you know that things will work out well, and I wouldn’t be completely influenced or bought by the corrupt people in government?
You know why? Because I am not corrupt, and that’s a result of my upbringing.
I know that power and money influence people, but there’s a limit to what they can do to someone who was well trained to see wrong as wrong and to stay away from it.
As much as things are tough and people are easily influenced to do anything, including devilish things just to make a living, most of the people who are practically involved in unhealthy norms are those who were not instilled with the discipline to abstain from wrong acts. Just a few of them act out of influence. Using myself as a case study, no matter what, I can’t find myself taking someone’s life. And it will interest you to know that this is something people nowadays do with the utmost ease. Some of them grew up in families where killing was a common thing.
Even the very common cyber fraud that’s trending in Nigeria, popularly known as ‘yahoo’ — if the parents see nothing wrong in their children engaging in the act while still under their roof, then if these children happen to be in government positions when they’re grown, there’s no way they’ll see anything bad in it. They’ll embezzle money without a guilty conscience, and that’s exactly what’s happening in our society today. Those involved in cyber fraud, once they gain access to a public purse with large funds, will confidently cart away with the money, and nothing will be done because, even if they are taken to court, the judiciary that will handle the judgment will be bought too.
The subject of raising children in a godly background cannot be overemphasized.

Let them grow up knowing what is wrong and shunning it. The ‘godly manner’ here does not refer strictly to spiritual matters, but rather to good morals that will add value to society when they grow up.
The difficulties we are facing today in our society started from the home, even though attention is merely paid to the happenings at the top. When children who fear taking a life are raised, the society will have fewer such incidents. When children are taught to see cheating in any form as wickedness to humanity, corruption will reduce, and life will become better because the people at the top will have no reason to embezzle money meant for public projects.
I once watched a funny clip where a phone was left in a public place in China. It stayed there for hours and wasn’t stolen by anyone, but the reverse was the case when it was done in Nigeria. You see, there’s a way the world can be where no one would feel the need to steal. Why should I steal a phone when I have mine? That’s it — and it all boils down to how children are raised.
Thanks for reading.
