Thanksgiving Day in October
It's officially autumn, and I can't ignore it anymore. I usually sense the smell of autumn in the middle of summer. Honestly, I really start to notice it toward the end of summer, but I always try to ask autumn to go somewhere else for a while and come back after Christmas. However, autumn doesn't wait for me.
When the trees started changing colour like this, I changed my mind and began to enjoy the beauty of autumn. After a few cold nights and mornings, the leaves turned vivid shades of orange, yellow, red, and brown, just like these trees. These guys are so beautiful! They're standing at the corner of the road that leads to the local conservation area. As soon as I see them, my eyes react to their vivid colours, which are almost fluorescent.
When I take photos of them, the camera doesn't capture the colours the way I see them. Sometimes, our eyes work much better than a camera. If I use a filter to make the colours more vivid, the image looks almost the same as what I see with my own eyes. This time, though, I didn't use a filter for these photos. These are the true colours as captured by the camera, without any filters.
As I mentioned in the title, this weekend is a long Thanksgiving weekend. Although I still have to work my usual shifts, it's a holiday. My husband is working, too, but his schedule isn't quite as tight over this long weekend. We still had a chance to go grocery shopping yesterday after my early-morning shift.
When I woke up around 4:45 a.m., I took my dog outside for his morning routine and saw Orion shining brightly in the sky. The air was so clear, and the sky was beautiful.
My husband noticed that our Airbnb neighbours were roasting a turkey because he could smell it when he went outside to walk the dog himself. Actually, we've stopped roasting a whole chicken or turkey for special occasions. There are a few reasons, but one of the main ones is that a whole bird is simply too big for us! We're not vegetarians, but we can't eat a lot of meat, so there's no need for us to cook such a large meat dish. Anyway, it's nice to smell the delicious aromas or know that someone nearby is cooking something special.
Our Thanksgiving dinner was simple. The day before yesterday, we had Japanese-style curry, which my husband cooked. Yesterday, we had nachos and enchiladas. That was our Thanksgiving feast!
As you can see, there's an Island Soda on the table. I don't drink soda, but my husband does. He recently discovered a selection of international sodas at our local supermarket. He says they're delicious and reasonably priced.
It was a fun meal after a long day. For dinner on Thanksgiving Day, I'm planning to have fish. I know our meals are completely different from traditional Thanksgiving dishes, but we enjoy and appreciate the local farm vegetables, which are always fresh and tasty.
This old-looking Mercedes-Benz truck was parked in a driveway near our house. We'd noticed that it was a cool truck, probably used for off-road driving or something like that, but we don't see it very often. By coincidence, we came across it again yesterday. The body colour and the emblem are perfect. I love the interiors and designs of old cars. I wish everyone could have the option of keeping a car's original body while replacing its engine with an eco-friendly one. Then we could keep driving these beautiful old vehicles almost forever! Anyway, this truck looks so cool. I tried searching online for its model, but I couldn't find another one quite like it.
It's a rainy day today, even though we were planning to go for a long walk with our dog. Unfortunately, it's raining. Hopefully, the sky will clear up this afternoon. My dog is trying to be patient, but his eyes are telling me that he wants to go outside. I can feel him giving me that pleading look!

１０月の感謝祭
いよいよ本格的な秋になってしまいました。もう、これ以上知らないふりはできません。私は真夏のころから、秋の気配を感じることがあります。正直に言うと、夏の終わりごろには、秋の気配をはっきりと感じ始めます。でも、いつも秋にもう少しどこかへ行っていて。クリスマスが終わった頃に戻ってもらうようお願いしているのですが。それでも、秋は私の都合など聞いてくれるわけもなく、秋はやってきます。
こんなふうに木々の色が変わり始めると、私の気持ちも切り変わり、秋の美しさを楽しめるようになってきます。寒い夜や朝が何度か続くと、木々の葉は、写真のように鮮やかなオレンジ色、黄色、赤、茶色へと変わっていきます。本当にきれいですね！
地元の自然保護区へ続く道路の角に、この木々が立っています。この木々を見ると、あまりにも鮮やかな色に思わず目が反応してしまいます。まるで蛍光色のようです。
写真を撮ってみても、カメラは私が見ているとおりの色を写し出してくれません。ときどき、人間の目のほうがカメラのレンズよりずっと優秀に感じます。フィルターを使って色をもっと鮮やかにすると、ようやく自分の目で直接見た色あいに近づきます。でも、今回の写真にはフィルターを使っていません。カメラがそのまま写した、加工なしの本当の色です。
タイトルにも書いたように、今週末は感謝祭の連休です。私はいつもどおりのシフトで働かなければなりませんが、それでも世間は祝日です。主人も仕事ですが、この連休中の勤務は、いつもほど忙しいスケジュールではありません。昨日は早朝のシフトを終えたあと、食料品の買い出しに行く時間もありました。
昨日、朝４時４５分ごろに起きたとき、犬を朝の用足しに連れて外へ出ると、空にはオリオン座が明るく輝いていました。空気はとても澄んでいて、空もきれいでした。
主人がひとりで犬の散歩に出たとき、近所のAirbnbの宿泊客が七面鳥を焼いていることに気づいたそうです。おいしそうな匂いがしてきたとか。
実は、私たちは特別な日に丸ごとの鶏や七面鳥を焼くのをやめました。理由はいくつかありますが、大きな理由のひとつは、私たちには大きすぎることです！ベジタリアンではありませんが、そんなにたくさんのお肉は食べられません。だから、あんなに大きなお肉料理を作る必要もないという結論になりました。それでも、どこかからおいしそうな匂いがしてきたり、誰かが特別な料理を作っているとわかったりするのは、いいものです。
私たちの感謝祭の夕食はシンプルでした。おとといは、主人が作ってくれた日本のカレーを食べました。そして昨日は、ナチョスとエンチラーダ。これが私たちの感謝祭のごちそうです！
テーブルの上にIsland Sodaがあるのが見えます。私は炭酸飲料を飲魔ないので、これは主人のです。近頃、地元のスーパーマーケットで、いろいろな国の炭酸飲料が並んでいるのを見つけたそうです。おいしくて、値段も手ごろだと言っていました。
長い一日のあとの、楽しい食事になりました。感謝祭当日の夕食には、魚料理を食べる予定です。私たちの食事は、伝統的な感謝祭の料理とはまったく違います。でも、地元の農家で作られた野菜を楽しみ、ありがたくいただいています。いつも新鮮で、おいしいです。
この古めかしい雰囲気のメルセデス・ベンツのトラックは、家の近くの 私道に停まっていました。前からかっこいいトラックだなと思っていました。おそらく、オフロード走行などに使われているのでしょう。でも、いつも見かけるわけではありません。偶然にも昨日、またこのトラックに出会しました。
車体の色もエンブレムの色も完璧です。私は古い車の内装やデザインが好きです。車の元のボディはそのまま残して、エンジンだけを環境に優しいものに交換できたらいいのにと思います。そうすれば、こんな美しい古い車に、ほとんど永遠に乗り続けられるのではないかと考えます。とにかく、このトラックは本当にかっこいいです。ネットで車種を調べてみましたが、まったく同じものは見つかりませんでした。
今日は残念ながら雨です。犬と長い散歩に出かける予定だったのに。午後には空が晴れてくれるといいのですが。犬はなんとか我慢しようとしていますが、その目は外に行きたい！と訴えています。肩のあたりに、じっと私を見つめる視線ビームを感じます。あの、お願いするような目つきです！
