Hola Hola!

Hi there!

It’s been such a long time since I shared a post—honestly, a lot has happened... But to sum it up: following my creative flow, I run a business specializing in creative and personalized stationery. It’s still in the early stages—we’ve only been up and running for a little over a year—but we’re learning and growing step by step.

Today, I wanted to share the process of customizing tumblers with you. It’s a huge trend right now—or as my best friend would say, it’s all the rage! There are various ways to customize them, but today I’ll show you the process using permanent vinyl.

Let's Talk About Vinyl...

Vinyl is a versatile and user-friendly material suitable for a wide range of applications, such as labels, signage, and customizing tumblers, thermoses, book covers—the list goes on. Working with vinyl usually involves a cutting plotter, where we create our desired designs using software. There are also various types of printable vinyl available, including matte, glossy, iridescent, gold, silver, and more. For customization projects, you can use a single type or combine several. For now, I’ll be using only matte printable vinyl on one of the thermoses, while the other will feature a combination of iridescent cut vinyl and printable vinyl.

Iniciemos! / Let's get started!

Lambie the sheep thermos (from Doctor Toys):

I started by organizing the images in a file, making sure that they are in good quality and without a background. Then I doubled depending on the number of times I wanted to use it. I printed the designs on matte vinyl on an EPSON, with high quality and setting the paper to Photographic type with a Glossy finish. After that, I went to cutting on my plotter, in one of the photos I leave the configuration I used.

After cutting, we remove the mat, remove the excess sheet and the vinyl stickers to personalize should peel off easily, showing clean edges.

Now we will prepare the thermos. We wipe the surface with a damp towel or a piece of cloth (that does not leave lint) moistened with alcohol. Afterwards we can leave it in the open air or dry well with a very clean piece of cloth that does not leave residue. We are fixing the stickers little by little, starting with the central ones and then the complementary ones. To place the vinyl sticker correctly, we start from the center towards the sides using uniform pressure, so that there are no bubbles. This is my favorite part.

Segundo Termo/Second Term

This second one is a combination of cutting vinyl with printable vinyl, since the girl wanted her name and the logo of Contadores Públicos de Venezuela, so it has some additional steps.

Already in the previous print and cut, I removed the logo. But I was missing the name, from my plotter program I placed the name with the font I wanted. Always in these cases I generally use two fonts, one in script and the other in italics, so that there is a contrast in the content. I sent it to cutting, then waxed and with contact paper or some transfer paper, I positioned the vinyl where I wanted to place it. I applied pressure, sometimes I have to help myself with a homemade improvised paddle (made with a damaged bank card and foam). Slowly peel off the contact paper to avoid tearing the vinyl. To better fix the vinyls and activate their glue, I use the gentle heat gun.
