A discount rate used in capital budgeting that makes the net present value of cash flows in and out of one particular project or investment equal to zero. Projects with a higher IRR are typically prioritized by firms, as they tend to be safer investments.
An IRR can sometimes be referred to as an Economic Rate of Return.
