It was a bright sunny day today and the weather was blazing hot. In fact, right from the dawn, the sun didn't blink one bit. I almost thought against the walk but I still managed to head out. My walk took me to Christ the King Cathedral, located at 54 Asa Road, Aba, Abia State.

Christ the King Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Aba, Abia State, Nigeria.
The history of the church stems from 1917, when Fr. Liddane, a missionary priest, lead a formal mission to Asa (Aba) to set up Christ the King Church. In 1929, the first small church building of Christ the King Catholic Church was built by Fr. Eugene Groetz, of blessed memory.
As the church grew, the need for a larger church arose. So in 1953, Fr. Dan Carron, laid the foundation of the present cathedral building. From then, more construction works continued until it was completed and dedicated to Christ the King in December 2004.

Moving from here, you'll locate the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria, Aba diocesan headquarters, called the Upper Room.

One of the oldest primary schools in Aba. This school has stood the test of time and it's standing.
Going further, you'll locate Nneoma House.
This two-storey building was built by the women of the Diocese - Aba Diocesan Catholic Women Organization, ADCWO. It houses dormitories, event hall and offices.

This is the statue of Vincent Valentine Ezeonyia, CSSp, the first Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Aba. He was ordained a bishop on July 1st, 1990 at Mater Dei Cathedral in Umuahia, and on July 2nd, 1990, was installed the bishop and local ordinary of the diocese. He passed away on February 8, 2015.
Five years later, February 13th, Very Rev. Fr. Augustine Ndubueze Echema was ordained the Bishop of the diocese.

I have fond memories of this beautiful edifice and it's environment while growing up. From attending Block Rosary congresses, choir practices to singing in the diocesan choir during Chrism masses and priestly ordinations. I could recall the last time I attended a Sunday mass there was during a colleague's child dedication two years ago. More often than not, I do attend the 12 O'clock Mass there.
