Something came across my mind today, and I thought I should share it here.
Have you ever noticed that sometimes we usually treat strangers better than the people who are the closest to us? We can be so polite to someone we barely know, but when it comes to our own people, we don't always show them the same kindnes, maybe because we have been too use to them or because we don't value them. We believe they understand us, so we feel we can say anything or act anyhow, and they will still be there.
But I don't think that is always fair.
Think about that friend who always checks up on you. Maybe you don't even notice how often they do it because you are already used to it. Then one day, they stop calling, and suddenly you start wondering what happened.
Sometimes, we only notice the things people do for us when they stop doing them.
I have seen how easily people can drift apart. Two people who used to talk every day can suddenly become strangers. No big fight, no serious argument. Life just happens, people get busy, and before you know it, months have passed.
You might even want to reach out, but then you start thinking, "Why should I be the one to call first?" And the other person might be thinking the exact same thing.
Before you know it, both of you are waiting for each other.
Honestly, I think our pride gets in the way sometimes. We want people to show us that they care, but we don't always want to make the first move ourselves.
What I am saying is not that you should keep chasing people who don't value you. There is a difference between making an effort or forcing yourself into someone's life.
But if someone genuinely means something to you, I don't see why you should always wait for them to reach out first.
Send that message. Make that call. Ask how they are doing. Even if you haven't spoken in a long time, there is nothing wrong with checking up on someone you care about.
Life is already stressful enough. We all have things we are trying to figure out, and sometimes a simple message from the right person can make our day better.
I also think we should learn to say thank you more often. Not just when someone gives us money or buys us something, but when they listen to us, stand by us, or make time for us.
Those things count too.
I'm not perfect at all of this myself, but it's something worth thinking about. We can't always assume people know we appreciate them. Sometimes, we need to let them know.
So, I want to ask you guys something.
Have you ever lost touch with someone you really cared about just because neither of you wanted to make the first move?
Did you eventually reconnect, or did you just let things stay that way?
