Been a farmer I love to expose myself to varieties of crops to learn more about the different species of food plants in existence.
So many people eat alot of things without knowing how it is grown or what the vegetative state of that plant looks like.
I have once taking a few of my friends to farm just to see how rice is grown, they have told me that they have no idea if rice is plucked from a tree or what it looked like. That is laughable because everybody in the world eats one kind of food or another but not many care about growing their own food or what this foods looks like before processing.
Everybody is meant to learn about food or at least a little knowledge of it so that we can know what to eat or what is good for our body.

Cocoyam is one of the oldest tubers I have grown up eating and in all my years of farming I am just coming in constant with Cocoyam plants. Listing them in category of which I like better, my pick will start from cocoyam to potatoes then yam and water yam.
Yesterday I went on Adventure into a nearby cocoyam farm after working in the rice field(we are working and keeping guard waiting for harvest, as the rice is getting dryer).

Just like every other tuber crops it takes 6months to 1yeae before reaching full maturity for harvest.
Here is a matured one and at a closer look you can see the tubers underneath already
The local name for this is called Taro. Just like rice, it can be grown in water logged soil or top land with no water this I have learnt from the farm owner here .

Planting is equally done about the same time with yam. Having seen this I picked some interest and the cocoyam farmer is willing to share me some seeds for next year cultivation .

Planting this in my own farm or garden at home might give me more knowledge and insight into this plant.
