Hello Hive

It's needlework o'clock, and you all know what that means. Time to relax, get a cup of tea, and see creative projects flow in from different parts of the world. I feel so happy that Hive brought us together. Compared to other Web2 social media, we get to form some bonds and interactions among ourselves. I appreciate the friends and acquaintances I have made here and how supportive everyone has been. I hope that we are all doing well and wrapping up our projects for the day.

It was a funny time in the house yesterday when my brother was making fun of me when he realized that I was sewing another dress for myself.

He continued to reiterate how ladies never get enough cloth to wear. For him, he can actually count the number of changes of clothes he has, but for ladies, the list is endless.

Maybe it's a general male problem, even though I have seen some males with several changes of clothes and who have a fairly large wardrobe too, but for the majority of the guys I know, you can almost count the number of clothes in their closet. 🤣🤣🤣

Okay, fine, ladies need more and more clothes. Don't ask me why, but we certainly do. 😄 If it were possible to wear new clothes to every occasion, trust me, I would do that. Dressing well often impacts some confidence in us, and the rest is an added bonus.

We have categories of wear: casual wear and the ones for church, weekend activities, or beach visits. You can name just any occasion or outing we often have that outfit that matches those appearances the most.

Am I the only one who gets attracted to trendy styles in town? Sometimes my seamstress heart finds it hard to concentrate in church; my eyes keep going round people's outfits. I keep learning and catching inspiration.

If I find a desired design, the next thing is to look for the fabric that I will use to either recreate it or redesign it to suit my own taste.

I spotted someone wearing this trendy maxi dress, and it caught my attention almost immediately. I equally realized that I do not have simple dresses I can wear to step out of the house casually.

All of my dresses are pretty and made for various outings and occasions, and having realized how much I struggle with what to wear when I'm to step out a little, I decided to sew this dress for myself that's just perfect for such a purpose.

After getting the front and back pieces

The neckline was designed to have a V shape cutting at the front, both stylish and for the dress to pass through the head easily. The measurements of 4 x 4" for the front and 4 x 1" for the back were perfect.

Next I turned this with bias; it was difficult to do this with the front V shape. I wanted a neater neckline and kept struggling to give it my best trail.

The dress is pretty free, but I didn't want it so simple and plain. I marked out the waistline here.

Got some elastic bands to pull the waist together. And there I have the waist fitted while the other parts are free.

The sleeves are cut together and in kimono form, simple and free.

Then I stitched up the sides and created a slit at the base of the dress so that one can walk easily in it.

And I can't tell you what happened in that picture. It is that moment of satisfaction, joy, and feeling of freedom.
