Hello, anime fans. The spring season is coming to an end, so—as is customary on my Hive Blog—it’s time to tell you about the best anime I’ve watched over the past three months. Today, we’ll start by talking about the best action anime, a genre that’s very popular and overused in this industry. While this season had plenty of surprises and some highly anticipated returns of certain anime, when it comes to action, let’s just say it hasn’t really stood out—though not quite as much as in previous seasons.
The action genre has always been popular because it blends so well with other genres like fantasy, comedy, science fiction, and more. It’s also known for being mostly pure audiovisual spectacle, filled with action scenes, chases, and other eye-catching elements aimed at a predominantly teenage and male audience. That’s why it’s hard to find anime that are “masterpieces” within this genre, given its shortcomings in terms of narrative and character development—especially these days.
That’s why I decided to put together this TOP list, starting with the action anime I’ve watched and consider worth checking out this spring season. Well, to be honest, I don’t recommend every single anime I’ll mention below—except for a couple at the end. But it all depends on what you’re looking for and what catches your eye, so if you like action, I invite you to stick around until the end. Just a reminder that everything you’ll read here is solely my own opinion. I’ll also note that these anime are listed in order from the least highly rated at the beginning to the most highly rated at the end.
Hola, fanáticos del anime. La temporada de primavera está finalizando así que -como ya es costumbre en mi Blog de Hive- ya es hora de hablarles de los mejores animes que he visto en estos últimos tres meses. Hoy vamos a empezar hablándoles de los mejores animes de acción, un género muy popular y sobreexplotado en esta industria. Si bien esta temporada tuvo muchas sorpresas y regresos bastante esperados de ciertos animes, en lo que respecta a acción digamos que apenas se ha destacado, aunque no tanto como en temporadas anteriores.
El género de acción siempre se ha popularizado por mezclarse muy bien con otros géneros como la fantasía, la comedia, la ciencia ficción y demás. También es conocida por ser en su mayoría puro espectáculo audiovisual, con puras escenas de acción, persecución y demás cosas llamativas para un público mayormente adolescente y masculino. Es por esto que es difícil encontrar animes que sean “obras maestras” dentro de este género debido a dichas carencias que ofrece en cuanto a narrativa y desarrollo de personajes, sobre todo en la actualidad.
Es por eso que decidí hacer este TOP empezando por los animes de acción que he visto y que considero que valen la pena de esta temporada de primavera. Bueno, en realidad no recomiendo todos y cada uno de los animes que les hablaré a continuación, a excepción de un par al final. Pero todo dependerá de lo que busques y te llame la atención, así que si te gusta la acción entonces te invito a que te quedes hasta el final. Les recuerdo que todo lo que leerán será únicamente mi propia opinión. También les aviso que el orden en que están estos animes son del menos valorado al principio hasta el más valorado al final.

Let’s start this TOP list with an anime that no one expected and that, personally, didn’t live up to all the promises it made at the beginning. It’s one of those anime where you start watching and get lost in the sheer number of plot twists, superficial supporting characters, and plenty of typical clichés. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Mikihisa Konishi, Petals of Reincarnation was produced by the studio Beten Film. The anime tells the story of Touya Senji, a high school student who has an inferiority complex because of his late older brother—whom he hopes to surpass once he develops a “talent” of his own.
Among all the anime I’ve watched over the past five years, I haven’t come across any with a plot as confusing, absurd, and forgettable as this one. I won’t deny that it caught my attention a bit at first with what it was trying to present, although I later found out that it isn’t as original as I initially thought. But that wasn’t the problem—it was the way it throws so many things at us right from the start, without even giving the plot time to develop properly. I think what bothered me the most of all was the sheer number of supporting characters they introduce.
Empecemos este TOP con un anime que nadie esperaba y que, personalmente, no cumplió con todo lo que proponía al inicio. Es uno de esos animes que llegas a ver y te pierdes por la cantidad de giros de trama, personajes secundarios superficiales y muchos clichés típicos. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Mikihisa Konishi, Petals of Reincarnation fue producida por el estudio Beten Film. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Touya Senji, un estudiante de secundaria que tiene un complejo de inferioridad debido a su difunto hermano mayor a quien piensa superar cuando consiga un “talento” propio.
Entre tantos animes que he llegado a ver en estos últimos cinco años no me encontré con ninguno que tenga una trama tan confusa, absurda y fácil de olvidar como lo es la de este anime. No voy a negar que me llamó un poco la atención al principio con lo que buscaba proponer, aunque luego me enteré de que tampoco es tan original como pensé al principio. Pero el problema no era eso, sino la forma en la que nos mete tantas cosas apenas empezando la obra, sin tiempo para desarrollar mejor la trama siquiera. Creo que lo que más me disgustó de todo es la cantidad de personajes secundarios que introducen.

From the very beginning, the anime invites us into a world where people can become famous figures from the past—heroes or villains—thanks to a talent that practically turns them into superhumans. Yes, it’s like a special ability granted by that knife-shaped artifact. While this is interesting at first, we see that everything goes down the drain when they throw in a bunch of characters only to have them die, be replaced, or easily forgotten amid one plot twist after another.
Those who were supposed to be the good guys at the start turn into villains, and the protagonist does almost nothing but show up in a place and little else. All of this, along with more generic clichés, is what this anime is mostly about. But where it fails the most—in my opinion—is in the audiovisuals due to its seemingly low-budget animation. The flashy character designs, the lack of depth in each scene, the empty shots, and the lack of detail and fluidity in many action scenes—replaced by generic visual effects—are the worst parts. The sound effects don’t stand out much either, nor does the soundtrack.
Personally, I give it a 7/10 rating as far as the action and supernatural genres are concerned.
Desde el principio el anime nos invita a conocer un mundo donde las personas pueden convertirse en alguien famoso del pasado (un héroe o un villano) con un talento que te convierte, prácticamente, en un superhumano. Si, es como una especie de habilidad especial que te da ese artefacto con forma de cuchillo. Si bien esto es interesante al principio, vemos que todo se va al excusado cuando meten a un montón de personas para que luego mueran, sean sustituídos o fácilmente olvidados entre un giro de trama tras otro.
Lo que se supone que eran los buenos al principio se convierten en malos, el protagonista no hace casi nada más que aparecer en un lugar y poco más. Todo esto y más clichés genéricos es lo que más tiene este anime. Pero en lo que más falla -opino yo- es en lo audiovisual debido a su animación de aparente bajo presupuesto. Los diseños llamativos de los personajes, la poca profundidad en cada escena, los planos vacíos y la falta de detalles y fluidez en muchas escenas de acción sustituidas por efectos visuales comunes es de lo peor. Los efectos de sonido tampoco destacan tanto, al igual que la banda sonora.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7/10 en lo que respecta al género de acción y sobrenatural.

Let’s talk now about the return of an anime that really entertained me last year thanks to its unique blend of comedy, drama, espionage, and action. It’s a series that gained significant recognition in the anime world, despite not having the best production values. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Hitsuji Gondaira, Mission: Yozakura Family was produced by Silver Link. Its second season picks up shortly after the events of the previous season, with our protagonist Taijo and his partner Mutsumi living their hectic lives with the Yozakura family.
I’m going to be honest with you about this anime: while it caught my attention and I liked it at first—as I mentioned above—that changed significantly halfway through the first season. Even now, with its second season (which looks like it will continue airing for another quarter), I still feel this dissatisfaction and disappointment. I’m not saying the story or the characters are bad—the truth is, they’ve managed to entertain me in a certain way. But it’s precisely because of the elements they use, like comedy and romance, that it’s turned into a sort of sketch show with short stories—or “filler” episodes, for those of the old school.
Hablemos ahora del regreso de un anime que me entretuvo mucho el año pasado debido a su mezcla tan particular de comedia dramática con espías y acción. Una serie que llegó a reconocerse muy bien en el mundo del anime, a pesar de no tener la mejor producción del mundo. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Hitsuji Gondaira, Mission: Yozakura Family fue producida por el estudio Silver Link. Su segunda temporada empieza poco después de los sucesos ocurridos en la temporada anterior, con nuestro protagonista Taijo y su pareja Mutsumi viviendo sus agitadas vidas con la familia Yozakura.
Les voy a ser sincero con este anime: si bien me llamó la atención y me gustó al principio, como ya dije arriba, esto cambió mucho desde la mitad de su primera temporada. Incluso ahora con su segunda temporada (la cual parece que seguirá en emisión un trimestre más) sigo sintiendo este disgusto y decepción. No digo que su historia ni sus personajes sean malos, la verdad es que han conseguido entretenerme de cierta manera. Pero es debido a dichos elementos que utilizan como la comedia y el romance que lo convirtió en una especie de sketch con historias cortas o “rellenos” para los de la vieja escuela.

Yes, there are episodes that follow the events unfolding in the main plot and the whole dilemma the Yozakura family faces with their ancestors and all that. I also like how, in a way, they explore the technology or the biological origin of the immense power possessed by the Yozakura brothers. But beyond that, it’s simply a story with lots of funny, absurd moments, characters who are hard to take seriously in serious or dramatic scenes, and—obviously—absurdly over-the-top. Let’s just say, yes, it has its clichés like any action shōnen anime, but here, at least, it’s a little different.
Still, it’s an anime I’d only recommend to those who like comedy with a bit of action, romance, and drama—just to pass the time, nothing more. It’s nowhere near the best thing I’ve seen this season. The same goes for its animation, which hasn’t improved one bit in this second season. In fact, I suppose all they managed to do was maintain that same quality and traditional, simple animation style across all the episodes. But this really disappoints me personally, since I think they should at least stand out more in the audiovisual department. But hey, it’s not the Third Season of One Punch Man, after all.
Personally, I give it a rating of 7.5/10 in terms of the action, science fiction, comedy, and drama genres.
Si, tiene sus episodios donde siguen los sucesos que ocurren en la trama principal y todo el dilema que pasa la familia Yozakura con sus antepasados y todo eso. También me gusta cómo, de cierta forma, desarrollan la tecnología o el origen biológico del gran poder que poseen los hermanos Yozakura. Pero más allá de esto es simplemente una historia con muchos momentos cómicos, absurdos, personajes que cuestan verlos en momentos serios o dramáticos y, obviamente, absurdamente fuertes. Digamos que sí, tiene sus clichés como todo anime shōnen de acción, pero aquí al menos es un tanto diferente.
Aún así, no deja de ser un anime que solo se lo recomendaría a los que les gustan la comedia con algo de acción, romance y drama como para pasar el rato y ya. No es ni de lejos lo mejor que he visto en esta temporada. Lo mismo ocurre con su animación, la cual no ha llegado a mejorar ni un poco en esta segunda temporada. Es más, supongo que lo que consiguieron fue mantener dicha calidad y animación tradicional y sencilla en todos los episodios. Pero esto mismo me decepciona bastante, en lo personal, ya que considero que al menos en lo audiovisual deberían de destacarse más. Pero bueno, tampoco es la Tercera Temporada de One Punch Man.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de acción, ciencia ficción, comedia y drama.

We continue with one of the most unexpected and underrated surprises of this spring season. An anime that seemed to be one thing but ended up becoming something completely different. A work of pure action with humor and unforgettable characters. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Tadatoshi Fujimaki, Kill Blue is produced by studio Cue. The anime tells the story of Juzo Ogami, a thirty-something professional assassin who lives alone after divorcing his wife due to relationship problems and a lack of empathy.
As you’ve probably noticed with the previous anime, the action genre is always linked to stories about spies, agents, or professional assassins. This is certainly the case with Kill Blue, which has a premise that really caught my attention from the start. The way the anime hooks you by introducing a practically invincible protagonist who suddenly turns into a teenager and has to go back to school to carry out an important mission is truly cinematic. If I had a coin for every story I’ve seen with this same premise in my life, I’d have quite a few.
Continuamos con una de las sorpresas más inesperadas e infravaloradas de esta temporada de primavera. Un anime que aparentaba ser una cosa y terminó convirtiéndose en otra cosa completamente distinta. Una obra de acción pura con humor y personajes inolvidables. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Tadatoshi Fujimaki, Kill Blue está producida por el estudio Cue. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Juzo Ogami, un treintañero y asesino profesional que vive solo, luego de divorciarse de su esposa debido a problemas de parejas y falta de empatía.
Como seguramente ya notaron con el anime anterior, el género de acción siempre está ligado con historias de espías, agentes o asesinos profesionales. Esto último es el caso con Kill Blue, el cual posee una premisa que me llamó mucho la atención al principio. La forma en la que el anime te engancha muy bien introduciendo a un protagonista prácticamente invencible que de repente se vuelve adolescente y tiene que volver a la escuela a cumplir con una misión importante es de película, de verdad. Si me dieran una moneda por la cantidad de historias que he visto con esta misma premisa en mi vida tuviera unas cuantas.

But anyway, aside from that premise, the rest is just the usual funny and entertaining moments of action, chases, displays of power, and confrontations. You know, the stuff that almost every shōnen action anime has and that’s what people love to watch the most. It’s not that I don’t like this—on the contrary, I’m one of those who enjoy it, especially when it’s accompanied by a great audiovisual spectacle. But it’s true that the anime lacks a bit of originality—or even supporting characters who really stand out—beyond just being talented or dangerous. You know, I’m talking about the kind of character development I love to see in an anime.
On the other hand, something I really liked about this anime—especially at the beginning—is the audiovisual presentation. Whether it’s the character designs (which aren’t overly flashy), the varied color palette, or the camera angles and shots, these elements are truly standout. The level of detail and fluidity in the animation is also fascinating. This is most evident, of course, in the anime’s various action scenes. The sound effects are also great, as is the soundtrack. In short, this might be one of the anime I personally recommend watching—especially if you like assassins.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8.5/10 in terms of the action, comedy, and science fiction genres.
Pero bueno, aparte de dicha premisa, lo demás es simplemente los típicos momentos graciosos y entretenidos de acción, persecución, demostración de poder y enfrentamientos. Ya saben, lo que todo anime shōnen de acción posee casi siempre y que es lo que más le gusta ver a la gente. No es que no me agrade esto, en cambio, me sumo a los que lo disfrutan y más con un buen espectáculo audiovisual. Pero sí es verdad que el anime carece un poco de originalidad o siquiera de personajes secundarios que llamen la atención, más allá de ser talentosos o peligrosos. Ya sabes, hablo de ese desarrollo de personajes que tanto me gusta ver en un anime.
Por otro lado, algo que sí me gustó mucho de este anime y más al principio es el apartado audiovisual. Ya sea por el diseño de los personajes que no son tan llamativos, la paleta variada de colores, los planos y vistas son de lo más destacable. La cantidad de detalles y fluidez en la animación también es fascinante. En la que más se destaca todo esto es, evidentemente, en las diferentes escenas de acción que tiene el anime. Los efectos de sonido también son geniales, al igual que la banda sonora. En fin, puede que este sea uno de los animes que personalmente recomiendo ver y más si te gustan los asesinos.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de acción, comedia y ciencia ficción.

We’re continuing with another anime that no one expected to see and that really surprised me, especially because it ended up being the complete opposite of what it seemed to be at first. Once again, we’re talking about professional assassins, but this time it’s a bit different from what we just discussed in the previous anime. Based on the web manga series of the same name written by Joumyaku and illustrated by Mizuki Yoda, Marriagetoxin is produced by the great Bones Film. The anime tells the story of Hikaru Gero, a professional assassin who is part of a family of assassins specializing in deadly poisons.
What seemed to be an entertaining and funny romance-comedy with a very unique protagonist ended up turning into a sort of action shōnen with typical clichés, quite striking supporting characters, and animation that’s a complete audiovisual wild ride. I won’t deny that the anime entertained me quite a bit from the start, since its premise really hooks you—especially because of the way they introduce and develop the protagonist, Hikaru Gero, who seems to come from a very traditional and powerful family of assassins. But what I liked most about all of this is the “central theme” of the story.
Continuamos con otro anime que nadie esperaba ver y que me sorprendió bastante, sobre todo porque terminó siendo todo lo contrario a lo que aparentaba ser al principio. De nuevo hablamos de asesinos profesionales, pero esta vez es un tanto diferente a lo que acabamos de hablar en el anime anterior. Basada en la serie de manga web homónima escrita por Joumyaku e ilustrada por Mizuki Yoda, Marriagetoxin está producida por el gran Bones Film. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Hikaru Gero, un asesino profesional que es parte de una familia de asesinos expertos en venenos mortales.
Lo que parecía ser una entretenida y graciosa historia de amor y comedia con un protagonista muy particular, terminó convirtiéndose en una especie de shōnen de acción con clichés típicos, personajes secundarios bastante llamativos y una animación que es una completa locura audiovisual. No voy a negar que el anime me entretuvo bastante desde el principio ya que su premisa te logra enganchar muy bien, sobre todo por la forma en la que te introducen y desarrollan al protagonista, Hikaru Gero, quien parece ser de una familia de asesinos muy tradicionalistas y poderosos. Pero lo que más me gustó de todo esto es el “punto central” de dicha historia.

I’m talking about Hikaru Gero’s quest to find a partner so he can get married and become the leader of his clan/family, thereby saving his sister from a bleak future. The anime features certain somewhat forced tropes and themes, such as cross-dressers and same-sex relationships. Mind you, I’m not saying I dislike this, but in the case of the cross-dresser, I do have a serious issue with how they portray him as if he were, in fact, a woman. But anyway, other than that, I think the rest of the characters we meet in this anime each have their own unique charm or distinctive qualities.
Aside from its interesting premise and well-developed characters, I’ve already told you that I really like the animation in this anime. It’s as if, out of nowhere, this little-known anime has animation that perfectly rivals popular shōnen action series like Jujutsu Kaisen, for example. And it’s no surprise when we see that the studio behind this anime adaptation is none other than Bones, one of the giants of Japanese animation. Another thing that really fascinates me is its impressive fluidity, especially in the action scenes, of course.
Personally, I give it a 9/10 rating in terms of the action, comedy, and romance genres.
Estoy hablando de la búsqueda que tiene Hikaru Gero por conseguir una pareja para poder casarse y así convertirse en el líder de su clan/familia para así salvar a su hermana de un futuro oscuro. El anime posee ciertos tropos y temas un tanto forzosos como lo son los travestis y las relaciones con gente del mismo sexo. Ojo, no digo que esto me disguste, pero con el caso del travesti sí que tengo un serio problema por cómo lo presentan como si, de verdad, fuera una mujer. Pero bueno, de resto considero que los demás personajes que conocemos en este anime tienen su atractivo o distintivo particular.
Aparte de su interesante premisa y sus personajes bien desarrollados, ya les dije que tenía gusta mucho la animación que tiene este anime. Es como si de la nada este anime que nadie conoce tuviera una animación que compite perfectamente con obras populares del shōnen de acción como lo es Jujutsu Kaisen, por ejemplo. Y no es de sorprenderse cuando vemos que el estudio a cargo de esta adaptación animada es nada menos que Bones, uno de los gigantes de la animación japonesa. Otra cosa que me fascina bastante es la impresionante fluidez que tiene, sobre todo en sus escenas de acción, por supuesto.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9/10 en lo que respecta al género de acción, comedia y romance.

To wrap up this TOP list, I couldn’t think of a better way to do it than with one of this year’s most anticipated anime series—one created by the same author who brought us the masterpiece FullMetal Alchemist. It’s a series that promises a lot and, so far, has more than lived up to expectations. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa, Daemons of the Shadow Realm is being produced by the renowned studio Bones Film. The anime tells the story of Yuru and Asa, twin siblings born between night and day in a hidden village where the gods are worshipped.
I’ll be honest: I had very high expectations for this anime because it was created by a great author who is the creator of a masterpiece in the action and dark fantasy genre. While it’s clear how different Daemons of the Shadow Realm is from FullMetal Alchemist, its premise is very interesting. Especially when it comes to the blend of supernatural and dark fantasy elements in a modern setting, featuring some pretty interesting characters. What I really like about this anime is how well-crafted the story is, the world it presents, and its main and supporting characters.
Para finalizar este TOP no encontré una mejor manera de hacerlo que con uno de los animes más esperados de este año, uno que fue creado por la misma autora que creó la obra maestra que es FullMetal Alchemist. Una obra que promete mucho y que, hasta ahora, ha llegado a cumplir muy bien. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Hiromu Arakawa, Daemons of the Shadow Realm está siendo producida por el gran estudio Bones Film. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Yuru y Asa, dos hermanos gemelos que nacieron entre la noche y el día en una aldea escondida donde veneran a dioses.
Les seré sincero: tenía las expectativas muy altas con este anime debido a que fue creado por una gran autora y dueña de una obra maestra del género de acción y fantasía oscura. Si bien es evidente lo distinta que es Daemons of the Shadow Realm a FullMetal Alchemist, la premisa que tiene es muy interesante. Sobre todo con lo que respecta a la mezcla de elementos sobrenaturales y de fantasía oscura en una era moderna con personajes bastante interesantes. Lo que me gusta bastante de este anime es lo bien construida que es la historia, el mundo que nos presenta y sus personajes principales y secundarios.

The most striking aspect of all is the protagonist, Yuru, a young man and one of the twin brothers mentioned above, who seem to have the potential to obtain an indescribable supernatural power. But what’s most striking about this character is that, without any powers or anything that makes him special, he manages to stand out in an impressive way thanks to his personality and hunter’s instinct. The contrast between the modern world and the spirits—or “daemons”—we encounter in this anime is fascinating. The themes of clans and families, the twins’ enemies, and so on.
Among the many great things to say about this anime is its animation, once again produced by studio Bones. Honestly, I think this is a studio that’s deeply committed to the projects they work on, and that’s something I really love. This is very clear in every episode and scene of this anime, which is fascinating. The quality of the animation, the character designs, the visual details, the fluidity, and everything else are truly outstanding. The same goes for the sound effects and the soundtrack in this anime. It’s too early to call it a masterpiece, but I personally highly recommend it.
Personally, I give it a well-deserved 10/10 rating in the action, fantasy, and supernatural genres.
Lo más llamativo de todo es el protagonista, Yuru, quien es un joven y uno de los hermanos gemelos que mencionamos arriba y que parece que tienen la posibilidad de obtener un poder sobrenatural indescriptible. Pero lo más llamativo de este personaje es que, sin ningún poder ni nada que lo haga especial, logra destacarse de una manera impresionante debido a su personalidad e instinto de cazador. El contraste con el mundo moderno y los espíritus o “daemons” que vamos conociendo en este anime es interesante. El tema de los clanes o familias, los enemigos de los hermanos gemelos, etc.
Entre tantas cosas buenas que se pueden hablar de este anime también está el tema de su animación, una vez más hecho por el mismo estudio Bones. Honestamente pienso que este es un estudio que se compromete bastante bien con las obras con las que trabajan y eso es algo que me encanta bastante. Esto se puede ver muy claramente con cada episodio y escena que tiene este anime, el cual es fascinante. La calidad de la animación, los diseños de los personajes, los detalles visuales, la fluidez y demás es de lo más destacable. Lo mismo sucede con los efectos de sonido y la banda sonora que tiene este anime. Es muy pronto para decir que es una obra maestra, pero personalmente la recomiendo bastante.
Personalmente, le doy una merecida calificación de 10/10 en lo que respecta al género de acción, fantasía y sobrenatural.
