Hello everyone and Happy Sunday.
The joy of every home is being a father or a mother, but I discovered that there is more to just being called a father or a mother, it's a call for responsibility, and looking at our society now, some people have failed in executing this assignment.
There is more to parenting than just birthing (bringing the child into the world), i came to understand that parenting is all about planting, nurturing, and reaping. I would further explain it this way; I would liken every child as the soil, (innocent, blameless and clean), and we as parents have the seed in our hand to plant on this soil (child), and whatever we plant is what will grow, either good or bad. And whatever we plant in them is what will grow and will bear fruit.
Parenting is a planting and nurturing season, thus recognizing the importance of planting, nurturing and cultivating our children's growth and development become our paramount responsibility.
Hence, just like a gardener plants the seed, and tends to the garden, parents like wise plant the seeds of values, morals, and knowledge in their children's minds and hearts, and as plant is nurtured through water, sunlight and nutrients for it to grow, they are also to be nurtured in love, attention, and care to develop and become good citizens.
Every child that is nurtured needs to be pruned and shaped so as to stand strong and healthy, and it's achieved by setting boundaries, providing guidance, as well as protecting them and being supportive to them.
Furthermore, offering guidance and direction helps the child develop important life skills, like problem-solving, decision-making, and social skills, also encouraging and applauding them builds their confidence and self-esteem.
Behaviour speaks faster than words, modeling positive behaviors and values, such as honesty, kindness, and respect, develop strong morals in them, and mostly it's achieved by spending quality time with them, engaging in activities and conversations that will promote bonding and connection between both parents.
Every parents are the first teacher of a child, and children tend to believe in their parents more than anyone else, except otherwise, they learn fast through their parents actions or activities as earlier stated, a family that is loving, kind and respectful, will be reflected by their child's character, same is applicable to a family that always fights and bully.
Though, it's not in all cases, there are still good children that cultivate good characters despite their parents cruelty, but it's often rare, because such a child tends to suffer mentally, emotionally and academically.
Understanding the role of parenting as planting and nurturing season will birth a sense of purpose, patience, care, trust that our efforts will yield a bountiful harvest of love, joy, and fulfillment, and we will enjoy the rewards of our parenting efforts as our children grow and mature.
Parenting is a blessing, but it's easy when we understand planting and nurturing.
