Every social media platform has its way of operation and peculiarity. Every one of them has its advantages and disadvantages, and this is what distinguishes them from one another. Many other social platforms have come into existence but couldn't stand the test of time probably due to mismanagement. Given this, others have been in existence for many years and they are still active to date such as Facebook and WhatsApp.
Starting my social media journey, I started with Facebook as my favorite social media platform because at that time I was naive about how it works. I got used to it that I saw it as the best and no other was compared to it until I started seeing the disadvantages in it. Facebook gave access to lots of irrelevant groups and posts, although when reported, they do take action but it is so volatile.
Facebook has its advantages as being a good way to reach out to friends and families and also advertise your goods to those you don't know which helps announce one to his or her world. But the opportunity was being abused giving evil perpetrators the head-up to hack people's accounts. This made me find solace in WhatsApp which I presume to be more secure due to some advanced management it has.
Although WhatsApp has some limitations which make reaching out to people limited. On WhatsApp you can only reach out to those you have their numbers, it's not like Facebook which when you make your profile and activities public everyone will see. WhatsApp is limited to people you interact with, if you don't have their WhatsApp registered number, there is no how you will reach out to them on WhatsApp. Also when advertising your business or promoting your career, only those you have on your WhatsApp contact list can view your status.
It also has one advantage whereby if you don't want some of your WhatsApp contact list to have access to what you post on your supposed status, you can easily mute them on one of the features known as "status privacy". This limits those who have access to view what you post. Its ability to make video calls and voice calls just to keep in contact with families and friends that are over long distances is one of the distinguishing characteristics of WhatsApp.
Coming to Instagram, not everyone knows how to operate Instagram because of some complexity. This made it difficult for many to advertise their businesses on the platform. The same goes with Twitter, it is so complex that lots of people who are not social media literate find it difficult to manage the accounts. Twitter is so strict that any wrongdoing can cause your account to be restricted and when this happens, going about your daily activities on the Twitter platform may be a difficult task.
Facebook remains my all-time favorite social media platform because of its flexibility and the ability to reach the world at large not limiting your access to those you know alone.
