«Vieja loca, conmigo no vas a poder».

The curse

“You crazy old woman, don't make me angry or I'll throw a rock at you and leave you lying on the ground.” Doña Magda was fighting fiercely with her neighbor.

“You say you're going to knock me down, but first I'll knock you down and leave you unable to move, you devilish old woman.” Doña Gertrudis grabbed her enemy by the hair and they started fighting.

“Crazy old woman, you can't beat me.” Doña Magda rolled her mortal enemy around until she was bleeding from the nose.

Doña Magda's husband, Don Félix, stopped the fight and took his wife home while Doña Gertrudis hurled insults. “You devilish old woman, you won't get away with this. You'll pay dearly for everything you've done to me.”

Doña Gertrudis and Doña Magda were once very good friends, the best you could say, but that great friendship was cut short by hatred and envy. Doña Magda had a store, which was well known and frequented, and when Doña Gertrudis saw this, she began to feel envious.

So much so that she, Doña Gertrudis, also opened her own shop and did everything she could to take Doña Magda's customers away from her, but nothing worked. The days went by and Doña Gertrudis closed her shop. This act made the woman begin to hate her very much. To satisfy her need to hurt her enemy, she began to seduce Doña Magda's husband.

The two lovers were discovered by Doña Magda, and from that moment on, whenever the women saw each other, no matter where they were or how many people were around, They grabbed each other's hair and rolled on the floor, trying to hurt themselves as much as possible.

After some time, Doña Magda's health began to decline, so she was taken to the doctors, who could not find the cause of her deteriorating health. At home, Doña Magda slowly wasted away and became skin and bones.

Her family was desperate about the situation their mother was going through, and the helplessness of not being able to do anything slowly consumed them. A neighbor advised the family to call Taita, an old Indian doctor in the area.

“Taita Tombe, my mother is very ill and every day she seems to lose her vital energy. Please help her.” Magda's daughter, with tears in her eyes, begged the Indian doctor.

“Let me see, Sumerce. I will help you see your Mita, don't worry.” The Taita began his work that week to cure Doña Magda.

Herbal baths, potions, prayers. Taita did everything he could that week to save Doña Magda from her terrible fate. As time passed, Taita Tombe said, “Your Mita's soul can no longer remain in this world. It would be better to let her go.”

Doña Magda's relatives wept inconsolably over the difficult situation, but they understood that there was nothing else they could do for their mother, and the only thing left was to kiss her and wish her a good rest.

“Sumerce, your Mita has been bewitched. The only thing we can do is save her soul and lay her to rest in peace.” Taita waved the branches around Doña Magda.

With her eyes watering from the terrible news, her daughter said, “No problem, Taita, do your work.”

A few days later, Doña Magda died, and after her death, many strange things happened. The mattress had a terrible smell, Doña Magda's hair fell out, and worms came out of her eyes and mouth. After hours of prayer, the Taita announced to the family, “You can rest assured that your Mita is in heaven.”

“Thank you very much, Taita Tombe, but do you know who is responsible for this?” The daughter looked expectantly at the Indian.

“I know, but I will not say, to avoid revenge. The only thing I will say is that the person who did this will be cursed, and their son and husband will die. You can rest assured.” Taita smiled and left, disappearing into the forest.

A year after Doña Magda's death, Doña Gertrudis' husband and son died in a traffic accident. The bus they were traveling in fell into a ravine when its brakes failed. The family then learned who was responsible for Doña Magda's death.
