Rocky greetings from Kiel Week - My review of Radio Bob! Rockcamp
When you think of Kiel Week, most people immediately think of the sailing boats, the harbor and the countless stalls. But for me this year - as in previous years - the absolute highlight was the Radio Bob! Rockcamp. 2025 was the 7th year that Radio Bob! has held up the rock flag in the middle of Kiel - and I was right in the middle of it again, for a whole 10 days.

Wenn man an die Kieler Woche denkt, kommen den meisten sofort die Segelboote, der Hafen und die unzähligen Buden in den Sinn. Aber für mich war dieses Jahr – wie schon die letzten Jahre – das absolute Highlight: das Radio Bob! Rockcamp. 2025 war es nun schon das 7. Jahr, dass Radio Bob! mitten in Kiel die Rockfahne hochhält – und ich war wieder mittendrin, ganze 10 Tage lang.
Ten days of rock'n'roll and goosebumps
The Rockcamp is more than just a stage. It's a meeting place, a living room and a festival within a festival. Different bands, different sounds every day - but always the same awesome atmosphere: honest rock, cold beer in hand and like-minded people everywhere who just want to listen to good music.
Zehn Tage Rock’n’Roll und Gänsehaut
Das Rockcamp ist mehr als nur eine Bühne. Es ist Treffpunkt, Wohnzimmer und Festival im Festival. Jeden Tag andere Bands, andere Sounds – aber immer dieselbe hammermäßige Atmosphäre: ehrlicher Rock, kaltes Bier in der Hand und überall Gleichgesinnte, die einfach nur Bock auf gute Musik haben.
The bands - from local heroes to legends
This year I was blown away by the diversity. Local bands who proved with every chord that the rock scene in Schleswig-Holstein is anything but dormant. Plus a few bigger names who regularly made the rock camp shake. Sometimes loud, sometimes melodic, but always with plenty of pressure on the speakers.
Die Bands – Von lokalen Helden bis hin zu Legenden
Dieses Jahr hat mich die Vielfalt umgehauen. Lokale Bands, die mit jedem Akkord bewiesen haben, dass die Rockszene in Schleswig-Holstein alles andere als eingeschlafen ist. Dazu ein paar größere Namen, die das Rockcamp regelmäßig zum Beben gebracht haben. Mal laut, mal melodisch, aber immer mit ordentlich Druck auf den Boxen.
Ed Bennett - A talent that simply picks everyone up
My personal highlight, however, came from a young talent: Ed Bennett. The guy is affectionately celebrated as a “YoungStar” in the rock camp - and rightly so! I've rarely seen someone go on stage with such ease and then deliver such a show. A natural talent through and through: great voice, laid-back guitar and totally down-to-earth. I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot more from Ed Bennett.
Ed Bennett – Ein Talent, das einfach jeden abholt
Mein persönliches Highlight kam allerdings von einem jungen Talent: Ed Bennett. Der Typ wird im Rockcamp liebevoll als „YoungStar“ gefeiert – zu Recht! Ich hab selten jemanden gesehen, der so locker auf die Bühne geht und dann so eine Show abliefert. Ein Naturtalent durch und durch: geile Stimme, lässige Gitarre, dazu noch total bodenständig. Ich bin mir sicher: Von Ed Bennett wird man noch viel hören.
An atmosphere that sticks
What makes the rock camp so special is the atmosphere. Every evening feels like a small class reunion - you see familiar faces, strike up conversations with strangers and by the third song at the latest, you're singing along with complete strangers as if you've known each other for years.
Stimmung, die hängen bleibt
Was das Rockcamp so besonders macht, ist die Atmosphäre. Jeder Abend fühlt sich an wie ein kleines Klassentreffen – man sieht bekannte Gesichter, kommt mit Fremden ins Gespräch und spätestens beim dritten Song singt man zusammen mit wildfremden Leuten, als würde man sich seit Jahren kennen.
My conclusion: Rockcamp forever!
For me it's clear: Kiel Week without Radio Bob! Rockcamp? Unthinkable! 10 days of rock'n'roll, cool people, strong bands and this very special vibe - that's exactly why I'll be there again next year.
