Horses is the debut studio album by American musician Patti Smith, released on November 10, 1975 by Arista Records. It was recorded at Electric Lady Studios between August and September 1975. It was produced by John Cale. A fixture of the underground rock music scene in New York City, Patti Smith signed with Arista Records in 1975 and her album was released in November of the same year. The album contains 8 tracks. Patti Smith and her band composed the album's songs using simple chord progressions, also their propensity for improvisation as well as embracing other musical styles.
The album Horses was both a commercial success and received critical acclaim from music critics. Horses is considered a seminal record in the history of Punk and later rock movements, and is included in professional album lists of the greatest albums of all time. Additionally, in 2009 Horses was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation into the National Recording Registry as a "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" work. Additionally, in Chris Smith in his book 101 Albums That Changed Popular Music (2009), the Album is considered a landmark for both punk and new wave music. Horses is a really successful album, even though it is her first debut album, Patti Smith and her band did a great job. The songs on the album are autobiographical, based on dreams and fantasy scenarios. The music and Patti Smith's vocals are truly amazing. I think the best song on the album is undoubtedly Gloria.
