Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is the seventh studio album by English singer, pianist and composer Elton John. The album was first released as a double LP by DJM Records on October 5, 1973. The album was produced by Gus Dudgeon. It was released with cover art by illustrator Ian Beck depicting John stepping onto a poster. Recorded at the Studio d'enregistrement Michel Magne in the Château d'Hérouville, France, the album evolved into a double LP as John and his band became inspired by the locale.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was a major commercial success worldwide and remains one of the best-selling albums of all time, with sales of over 20 million copies. And the album is widely regarded Elton John's magnum opus. The album debuted at #17 on the Billboard 200 and quickly rose to #1 on its fourth week on the chart, where it stayed for eight consecutive weeks.
