I have been watching the show ' Say Yes to the dress' recently. After watching a lot of episodes, I think I want to share my opinions about a lot of things I felt. Not that it matters but it would feel better if I did.
A lot of brides are overwhelmed by the moment and usually swayed away by the dress consultants' opinions and agree to spend more on a dress than intended. Sometimes, it is the accompanying friends or family that force decisions thanks to their reactions.
Is it justified to pay thousands of dollars just for one dress that you will be never wearing again?
In my opinion, no. Many times, marriages are not perfect and spending a lot of money just for a single dress that could have been saved for later use does not make sense.

Marriages are expensive and it is time to rethink priorities and start to think practical. That being said, I am an Indian and if it were up to me, I would also prefer a simple marriage in my family instead of spending thousands on the wedding hall, food and gifts.
Coming back to the wedding gowns, it surprised me that thge brides were sold dresses that resembled fishing nets. Some looked like they were good contenders for magazine models. When the brides are paying a huge amount for dresses, they should get their money's worth in the least. The frills in the bottom look like they were sourced from cheap mills. I am sure they were and made with the help of cheap labour.
Not saying yes to societal pressure is one change the bride can bring about.
Use the money to back oneself and be financially stable.
Use the money to save for a foreign trip and see the world.
Save the money for a house or other stuff that you might need.
I cannot go back in time to redo my own wedding but I can at least advice others and if at least one person agrees with me and does so accordingly, the less money will have been wasted then.
