My aunt’s favourite pastime

Good morning, friends, and welcome to my blog. Painting mandalas had become a process of personal liberation; I recently discovered that painting helps me regulate my emotions and clears my mind, dispels sadness and leaves me feeling motivated. Two years ago, I bought a mandala colouring book and had only coloured in about three pictures – one during each moment of reflection – and I intended to finish it as and when I felt the need to heal.

However, every time I coloured, a constant argument would arise with my aunt, who kept asking me for this book for herself; I’d reply with a resounding ‘no’ because I’m always buying her colouring books, but she gets through them one after the other as if it were a competition. What’s more, this book was special to me, but there’s a saying in my country that goes: ‘No misfortune lasts 100 years, nor can any body withstand it’ – in other words, faced with my aunt’s insistence, I couldn’t take it any longer and gave in; I lent her the book so she could colour in one picture, and in the blink of an eye, she’d finished the whole thing without warning.

Every time I left the house, she’d take the opportunity to colour, and as we’ve been without electricity lately, there’s nothing else to pass the time with; I let her colour, hence the title ‘stolen paintings’ 😅: my aunt stole the book from me.

I have to admit that, with the few colours she has, she works wonders; her drawings look lovely and the colours go together really well. I did my drawings with felt-tip pens because I don’t have coloured pencils and she does. Pleased to have finished the book, she showed it to me, and the other day I found her colouring with great concentration.

We coloured the lotus flower on the cover together; it was a drawing I’d left half-finished when I went out, and when I came back, she’d finished it. Now I’ve promised myself I’ll buy some colouring books and new coloured pencils. What I want most of all is to buy a notebook so I can start doing brain teasers and encourage everyone in my family — Mum, my brother, my aunt and me — to put our minds to the test. It’s the best activity we can do, and without electricity, there are no excuses or other distractions.

La actividad favorita de mi tía
Bendecido día amigos, bienvenidos a mi blog.
