I recently purchased some art materials, and a day after receiving them, I decided to put them to use.
Since the pandemic, my parents and I have been feeding some sparrows with rice grains every morning. Sometimes, my father would forget to feed them, and they'd start chirping on the tree in our front yard. It has become a topic of discussion at home lately, and because of that, I decided to paint a lovely sparrow.
For this painting, I used watercolor and poster paint (tubes) on 10 x 15 cm watercolor paper. Let me show you some progress shots I took while creating it.
I prepared the watercolor paper by placing some masking tape around it. I wanted to create borders on both sides and paint the main subject at the center.
I chose blue for the background to create a sky-like effect.
Using a mechanical pencil, I sketched a cute sparrow on a branch with some flowers and leaves.
The background turned out to be on the darker side, so I decided to cover the pencil sketch with white paint as the base. This way, the colors would pop and would be much clearer in contrast with the dark background.
Then, I started with the main subject. I made a chubby one because it's cuter that way. haha I mostly used various shades of brown and orange watercolor or poster paint. I also used various types of brushes. I'm not sure what the appropriate brushes to use are, but I did it according to my own feelings. lol
Then, I colored the rest of the subject. I experimented with various colors, particularly red, yellow, and white, for the flowers. I also experimented with different shades of green.
After taking out the masking tape on both sides, I colored it with brown. I then wrote my username, signature, and the date when I painted it. Lastly, I added a random white border design and the title of my painting using a correction pen. :)
