Having grown up as a child in a poor village, all I ever wanted to do was relocate to some other location where something was happening. I was always outside and in most cases in a place far from my village. I wanted to see things differently and experience life beyond the narrow horizon of my small village.
Now, I live in a city away from my hometown. A pretty bustling city with people from all corners of the world, all of them, doing different things. And guess what? Even in this kind of city, I'd say 99% of my friends and business partners don't live in this city. They live everywhere, and I know them through the internet.
This is to say, most of my thinking, communication, and work-related friendships are online. Instead of seeing my geographical location as my flaw and excuses for living the kind of life that I want, I look up to the internet to create my own world. Whereas I had no local following, I now have inleo friends, Threads gangs, Telegram friends, Facebook relatives, WhatsApp acquaintances, Google readers all contributing to form the networks that sustain me and add color to my world.
You don't have to live anywhere else but where you are living now to start reaching out to the world you want to live in. If you are bogged down somewhere because of geographical handicaps, if you believe you are too penniless and there is nobody to assist you, or if you are literally bound to a location, I want you to take heart. If the country you were born in cannot offer you the world you wish to have, look up above your geographical location. There is a huge world out there that you can reach out to and connect with to create the world that you would like to inhabit.
You can create your own world around you. It is not required that you go out of home to find and connect with the type of world you wish to be in. The world has been brought to your fingertips by the internet. And you can travel the entire world in minutes finding and connecting with various people from various walks of life.
You can design your own world the way you wish to exist. Simply remain at home, go online and start networking with people from diverse backgrounds and start developing the kind of world you want by selling your ability and imagination. Even if you don't have an existing network, you can develop a network alone.
Start reaching out to others. Start talking. Start creating. Start getting something done. Don't wait for your friends, family or community to tell you to do something before you start doing it. You are not a visitor.
The beauty of technology is that there are so many things that it can help you do if you wish it to. You do not have to wait around for the government to give you the ideal conditions. You do not have to wait for your relatives, friends, or acquaintances to put you on a pedestal. You do not have to wait for a guy in an outlandish suit or a guy in a large car to tell you that they want you to be like them. You don't have to sit around waiting for a corporate manager to invite you in for a job interview. You just have to grab some little knowledge, engage with the internet, and get acquainted with the possibilities of it all.
And when you are online, go out and explore. What brings you to this network of a community gives you all that you need to construct the world that you want to live in. I utilize the internet to test my mind, test my nervousness, test my shyness, and be grateful for what I possess. I also utilize it as a tool to vent my talent and creativity, and also vent my business sense.
My horizon prior to two years ago when I joined the blogosphere was limited to my geographical location which also dictates my level of living. I've created my own world now with technology. I look to the internet to build the kind of world I want to live in, and I'm enjoying the fact that there are people all over the world, right at this minute, reaching out to me, and building the kind of world that they want to live in.
So, if you are stuck somewhere and are bored, log on and discover the world. That's the magic of the internet. Meet people, look up on the internet and see what you can do together. Build a new world for yourself, because you can. If you are poor and there is no food to eat, and you are waiting for people to give you money and food, go online and discover the world.
