Ok ok, this is probably the funniest and one of the weirdest medical case reports I have ever come across.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words so there you go:

Tldr; A ladybug. Living and thriving in someone's ass ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

It was found during a routine screening colonoscopy of a 59-year-old man with no comorbidities.

So you are probably thinking it came from the back door.

But here's where things get interesting.

It was probably accidentally ingested during sleep and saved in the last minute from certain death thanks to the colonoscopy preparation:

Bug ingestions are rarely reported but can occur even during sleep. The patient's colonoscopy preparation was 1 gallon of polyethylene glycol the evening before colonoscopy, and the colonoscopy examination was otherwise normal. His colonoscopy preparation may have helped the bug to escape from digestive enzymes in the stomach and upper small intestine.

In case you wonder, the ladybug was identified to belong to the species Harmonia axyridis:

Harmonia axyridis is a large lady beetle or ladybug species that is most commonly known as the harlequin, Asian, or multicoloured Asian lady beetle. This is one of the most variable species in the world, with an exceptionally wide range of colour forms. It is native to eastern Asia, but has been artificially introduced to North America and Europe to control aphids and scale insects. It is now common, well known, and spreading in those regions, and has also established in Africa and widely across South America. via wiki

Unfortunately the authors of the case report didn't reveal the final fate of the ladybug. I bet they squashed it or something which is sad.

Imagine all the lulz that went on during the operation though. I'd love to be part of it ๐Ÿ˜‚

There's really not much to say about the case, even the original report is super short. After all, they just found a ladybug in someone's ass and got over with their lives. They were kind enough though to share the hilarious story with the rest of the world ^_^

Anyways.. I guess the moral of the story is that colonoscopies save lives. Maybe not yours. But they do ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿž๐Ÿž
