I was looking up some coins and shit today, mostly for new silver pieces to add to my collection and ended up learning some fun stuff.

First thing I learnt, there is a mini nation called Cook Islands. Never heard of them before...Have you?

Apparently they are located in the center of nowhere, somewhere in the Pacific:

The Cook Islands is a self-governing island country in the South Pacific Ocean in free association with New Zealand. It comprises 15 islands whose total land area is 240 square kilometres (93 sq mi). The Cook Islands' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) covers 1,960,027 square kilometres (756,771 sq mi) of ocean. source

Here's a visual of where they actually are:

Cook islands today use the New Zealand Dollar because reasons but sometime before 1995 they had their own currency called the Cook Islands dollar.

And what's really interesting about their old currency is that they had some really weird shaped coins, including a triangular one !

Clockwise from top: $5, $1, 5ยข, 10ยข, $2.source

Love the triangular one and the one with the boy statue thingie peeing or whatever ๐Ÿ˜‚

These coins are made of common metals, like bronze and nickel.

If you follow my blog then you know that I mostly collect silver coins due to their inherent value, but I do like to treat me with the occasion monetary oddity. And this one is just too good to miss ^_^

And it turns out I am not alone. For example, the triangular 2$ piece is worth at least 3$ !

Their retired banknotes are also really interesting and amongst the most colorful pieces I have ever seen!

Here's their old 3 & 20 $ pieces:

Pretty damn cool ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

Cook islands dollars just won a place in my bucket list, that's for sure! I am definitely getting the coins and the notes I have shown in this post!

If any of you stackers have any for sale please let me know in a comment. Would love to buy them from you... Always for a a fair price that is ^_^
