Hey gamers, how are you all doing? I'm doing great, still continuing my adventure through Space Marine 2, and this time I tackled the mission that PvP throws at you called Decapitation, where we have to fight our way through the Tyranid swarm in order to plant explosives and weaken the Hive Tyrant, which we then have to take down for good. So, let's get into it.

Making our way through the Cathedral

Right from the start, we have to push through a ruined cathedral completely infested with Tyranids just to reach the first objective point, which is where the explosives are located. And let me tell you, this cathedral setting is absolutely gorgeous in that dark, gothic, crumbling way this game always nails so well. Broken stained glass windows, collapsed pillars, debris everywhere, and in the middle of all that beauty, swarms of Tyranids crawling out of every corner trying to tear you apart.

The fight through here is relentless. You're constantly surrounded, constantly switching between your rifle and your melee weapon depending on how close the enemies get, and the sheer number of Tyranids pouring out from broken walls and collapsed ceilings makes it feel like the whole cathedral itself is alive and hostile. It's one of those stretches where you really have to stay on your toes, because standing still for even a couple of seconds means getting swarmed from multiple directions at once.

What I appreciate about this section is how it builds tension gradually. You start with smaller groups of enemies, just enough to keep you moving, and then as you get closer to the objective, the swarm gets denser and more aggressive, almost like the game is warning you that something much bigger is waiting for you at the end of all this chaos.

Placing the explosive charges

Once you manage to fight your way through the entire swarm, we have to place the explosive charges on the pillars, six of them in total, which will later let us blow up the bridge up ahead. This part slows the pace down a little bit, but not in a bad way. It gives you a brief moment to breathe after all that chaos in the cathedral, while still keeping you alert, because of course the Tyranids don't just let you plant explosives in peace.

While you're setting each charge, enemies keep trickling in, so you end up splitting your attention between planting the charge and fending off whatever's crawling toward you at that moment. It creates this nice rhythm of plant, defend, move to the next pillar, plant again, which keeps the mission from ever feeling like a simple fetch-and-place objective. By the time you set that sixth charge, you can already feel the tension building for whatever's about to happen once that bridge comes down.

Attacking the Hive Tyrant for the first time

Once we place all the charges, we have to head back up to the surface to defend our position and detonate the explosives, which will come crashing down right on top of the Hive Tyrant. This is honestly one of those moments where the game does a fantastic job building up to a big encounter. You know exactly what's coming, you can see this massive creature looming in the distance, and you're basically holding the line while the detonation sequence runs, fighting off wave after wave of smaller Tyranids trying to stop you from pulling the trigger on that bridge.

The moment the bridge actually collapses onto the Hive Tyrant is genuinely satisfying. For a creature of that size, seeing tons of rubble and debris crash down on it feels like a real gut punch delivered right back at the swarm after everything it threw at you just to get here. It's one of those cinematic moments where you just stop for a second and think, okay, this game really doesn't hold back on scale and spectacle.

Killing the Hive Tyrant

Once we bring the bridge down on top of the Hive Tyrant, we have to chase it down, hunt it, and kill it, facing off against this incredible monster in a genuinely brutal fight. And brutal is really the right word here. Even weakened from the bridge collapse, this thing hits like a truck, moves faster than you'd expect from something its size, and forces you to use absolutely everything you've got, dodging its massive claw swipes, finding windows to land hits, and constantly repositioning so you don't get cornered.

The scale of this fight is what really gets me. You're this armored Space Marine, already a towering figure compared to a regular human, and next to the Hive Tyrant you still feel small. That contrast makes the whole encounter feel appropriately dangerous, like you're punching way above your weight class and somehow managing to hold your own purely through skill, positioning, and raw stubbornness. Every successful dodge and every landed hit feels earned, and by the time the creature finally goes down, there's this genuine sense of relief mixed with satisfaction, like you actually survived something you shouldn't have.

So, once the Hive Tyrant is finally eliminated, the mission comes to an end and we can move on to mission number three. This one's honestly been one of my favorite PvP missions so far, the mix of swarm combat, the explosive setup sequence, and that massive boss encounter at the end gives it a really satisfying arc from start to finish. It's the kind of mission that reminds you why this game's combat system works so well, since every part of it, the crowd control, the precision shooting, the melee finishers, all gets put to use across these different phases.

Gamers, I hope you enjoyed this post, and I'm looking forward to seeing what mission three throws at us next. This game just keeps finding new ways to surprise me with its scale and its boss encounters, and I can't wait to see what's coming up. See you in a next one!
