Today I’m going to tell you about my recent stroll through Plaza Bolívar in Cumaná. Not only do I love walking around there—since it’s quite spacious and therefore ideal for children—but there’s always something interesting to see, and in this case, there was a lot of hustle and bustle due to the Christmas preparations. It’s customary to illuminate the plaza in a striking way, which is why the installation of lights and decorations begins so early.

It’s worth noting that this public space is the epicenter of Christmas events; the workers go all out to create a visual spectacle that catches the eye and leaves a lasting impression, especially since the design is different every year—a real challenge for the imagination.

I stood there watching as the workers followed instructions and assembled figures from metal frames, then installed colorful lights everywhere. It must be acknowledged that this is a titanic task because it requires many hands, patience, and creativity, along with efficient coordination to make the most of the time.

I love Christmas decorations with their many motifs: reindeer, Santa Clauses, little trees, angels, stars, the Three Wise Men, bears, nativity scenes, and other figures associated with this time of year. Without a doubt, the most striking feature of the display is the enormous Christmas tree that rises about 10 meters above the ground and can be seen from a great distance.

This time they dressed it in green with a big star on top; last year it was covered in lights arranged like a waterfall, and you could see right through it. Likewise, the year 2027 stands out in giant numbers behind it. We’re already nearing the end of this year, and while for some it may bring a certain sense of nostalgia, for others it’s a time to set new goals and objectives to achieve in order to give meaning to life. For me, this year was marked by the earthquake that occurred last June, so my thoughts aren’t quite in tune with the celebrations yet.
