In the world of fashion, it’s not just about clothes and shoes—it’s also about other items like accessories, including those we use for our hair, such as headbands, turbans, and scrunchies, which are soft fabric hair ties that prevent hair damage.

Right now, there are lots of videos and tutorials on social media showing how to make them; they come in various sizes and colors and can be a great business opportunity.

Here’s how I’m making mine.

Materials:

-Fabrics: satin, velvet.
-Elastic bands 1 cm or 1.5 cm wide; they can be flat or round, white or black.
-Scissors.
-Cardboard patterns.
-Pins.

Instructions:

To work faster or save time, I used a piece of stiff cardboard to cut out some templates that look like strips or long rulers of different sizes—both in length and width—since these can be made for girls, teens, or adults, as long as they have long hair.

I used a piece of cardboard measuring 75 cm long by 10 cm wide as a template. I placed it on the fabric and cut along the edges with scissors. Since this is black suede or velvet fabric, I couldn’t mark it; if it were a light color, I could mark it with a pencil or chalk.

Sew the ends together with the sewing machine.

image.png

The good thing about this fabric is that it doesn’t fray; otherwise, you could burn the edge with a lighter or a candle.

Place the fabric with the seam facing up, and at the halfway point, roll up the excess fabric so it’s tucked inside.

image.png

Pin the other edges in place to start sewing.

image.png

Be careful not to sew over the fabric that’s left inside; it will gradually be pulled out as you sew.

image.png

When you’ve finished sewing and are almost back where you started, leave a gap of about 3 or 4 cm. Remember to backstitch the seam so it doesn’t come undone—this gap is for turning the bow inside out.

image.png

Once turned over, find the 20-cm elastic band and thread it through using a pin or needle, making sure the other end doesn’t get caught.

image.png

Once you reach the spot where you inserted the elastic, remove the pin, gather the elastic bands together, and tie a knot. Pull the knot tight so it stays secure and doesn’t come undone.

image.png

Now, using the sewing machine, close up the open space.

And there you have it—this cute scrunchie is ready!

Here are some others I've done—they look beautiful, even elegant, and they help take care of your hair at the same time.
