Marlo Brando, arguably the greatest actor that ever lived, is a subject of 2015 documentary Listen to Me Marlon, directed by British filmmaker Sam Riley. Brando's private life at times was as eventful and picturesque as his iconic roles, so the choice of subject is hardly surprising. On the other hand, Riley uses unusual storytelling technique by employing Brando himself as narrator, mostly thanks to the large number of audio tapes he had made during the last decades of his life. Those words are seamlessly matched with documentary footage and clips from Brando’s films, but they nevertheless fail to tell a coherent story. This is mostly due to Brando recording his tapes in various periods of his life, in different moods and with different opinions, so this chaotic documentary could please only the true connoisseurs of Brando’s work who can give true context to his words.
