First title in the film series that made global masses of teenagers happy while making professional film critics miserable looks pale compared to latter parts. Whether it was due to Melissa Rosenberg’s inept script or the need to keep more attractive parts of the Saga for sequel is beside the point. Apart from bringing Edward Cullen and Bella Swan to screen and thus satisfying needs of original novel’s rabid fan base, Twilight delivers hardly anything. It is disappointgly overlong and bland story with expected yet annoying cliffhanger. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart try very hard in their roles and director Catherine Hardwicke ocassionally experiments with something resembling original style, but they can’t fix generally disappointing first impression.
