The Latin word jus, which meaning "right," is the root of the English term "justice." What we mean by "right" is that which is equal because "right" indicates an equality relationship. A certain equality has been established when an unfair situation is "made right." It is appropriate for you to get reimbursed if you lend someone a particular quantity of money (commutative justice). You are entitled to receive your dues, and the other party is obligated to pay them to you. In other words, if there is a right, there is a form of debt, a responsibility on the side of someone else to create an equality relation, which is to put things right. A just guy is one who persistently desires such an equality of treatment everywhere and whenever there is a debt or other obligation. The Virtue of Justice.
