My oldest daughter will complete 7 years this year. And despite being born in Brazil, she didn't have the experience of a big New Year party with many family members. She came with us to Canada when she was still 6 months and her first new year experience was already here. Since I met my wife, I have been going to New Year's parties with my mother-in-law, just because my parents never had any big parties, and also despite celebrating New Year's Eve, it isn't so important to them compared to my mother-in-law. But my daughter couldn't go to any of these parties yet, because it is a very expensive date to travel, maybe when Hive goes to the Moon I will be able to not care about the crazy amount of costs for a travel ticket during that time of the year.

Minha filha mais velha completará 7 anos este ano. E apesar de ter nascido no Brasil, ela não teve a experiência de uma grande festa de Ano Novo com muitos membros da família. Ela veio conosco para o Canadá quando ainda tinha 6 meses, e sua primeira experiência de Ano Novo já foi aqui. Desde que conheci minha esposa, tenho participado das festas de Ano Novo com minha sogra, simplesmente porque meus pais nunca tiveram grandes comemorações, e apesar de celebrarem a véspera de Ano Novo, isso não é tão importante para eles em comparação com minha sogra. Mas minha filha ainda não pôde ir a nenhuma dessas festas, porque é uma data muito cara para viajar; talvez quando o Hive for para a Lua, eu consiga não me preocupar com a quantidade absurda de custos de uma passagem de viagem durante essa época do ano.

However, we could do a nice party at home, just My wife, my two daughters and me. We made a nice dinner, baked cod with vegetables, which included onion, potato, kale, bell pepper, olives, and cooked eggs. My wife also prepared a wonderful berries cheesecake for the desert. In addition, we bought some New Year accessories in the dollar store to make things funnier for the kids, like plastic glasses with 2004 in them and blinking lights. We added some happy music on Spotify for the kids to dance a bit. Like I said in a previous post it is impossible to stay awake with young kids until midnight, so this year we took advantage of the time zone in Brazil being 4h ahead. We were going to call our parents at midnight to wish them a Happy New Year, so we found a countdown in Copabacana Beach in real-time, it was 8 pm in our time zone. So it was perfect to make a countdown during Brazil time, very convenient for us. I bought it to celebrate the new year this time a sparkling wine alcohol-free which I can say that it was so bad tasting. The kids had fun I guess, for them, it is important to stay with both of us, of course, the whole family experience could be fun.

I remember the first New Year's Eve that I went to my in-law's house. I brought a very good Portuguese white wine, and then I discovered that no one liked wine in there. So I drank the whole bottle by myself. My father-in-law likes to drink, but no wine, mostly beer. Usually, it looks like a Christmas continuation, with some turkey and ham, in addition to cod fish ( the same recipe that I made here). Every year it looks the same, the same food, the same expectations with the New Year's millionaire prize, which me and my father-in-law never won! Interestingly during this year I and 17 friends bought some tickets and we got 4 of the total 6 numbers, we won a total of 1,200 BRL, which was diluted between everyone, each got around 70 BRL, not even 15 USD lol, I got more money during the Zealy contest being in the top 100. And always have Homeric fights between my in-laws. Which is always bad, but unfortunately is a family tradition I guess. Still, it is an experience to gather with my in-laws, including my sister-in-law and her husband. You have food, many people gathering, and also gossip and fights.

No entanto, poderíamos fazer uma festa agradável em casa, apenas eu, minha esposa e minhas duas filhas. Preparamos um jantar delicioso, bacalhau assado com legumes, que incluía cebola, batata, couve, pimentão, azeitonas e ovos cozidos. Minha esposa também fez uma maravilhosa cheesecake de frutas vermelhas para a sobremesa. Além disso, compramos alguns acessórios de Ano Novo na loja de um dólar para tornar as coisas mais divertidas para as crianças, como copos de plástico com o ano de 2004 e luzes piscantes. Colocamos algumas músicas alegres no Spotify para as crianças dançarem um pouco. Como mencionei em um post anterior, é impossível ficar acordado até meia-noite com crianças pequenas, então este ano aproveitamos o fuso horário no Brasil, que está 4 horas à frente. Íamos ligar para nossos pais à meia-noite para desejar-lhes um Feliz Ano Novo, então encontramos uma contagem regressiva em Copacabana em tempo real, eram 20h no nosso fuso horário. Foi perfeito para fazer a contagem regressiva durante o horário do Brasil, muito conveniente para nós. Comprei para celebrar o Ano Novo desta vez um espumante sem álcool que posso dizer que tinha um gosto terrível. As crianças se divertiram, imagino que para elas é importante ficar com nós dois, claro, toda a experiência familiar poderia ser divertida.

Lembro-me da primeira véspera de Ano Novo em que fui à casa dos meus sogros. Trouxe um bom vinho branco português, e então descobri que ninguém gostava de vinho lá. Então bebi a garrafa inteira sozinho. Meu sogro gosta de beber, mas não de vinho, principalmente cerveja. Geralmente, parece uma continuação do Natal, com peru e presunto, além do bacalhau (a mesma receita que fiz aqui). Todo ano parece igual, a mesma comida, as mesmas expectativas com o prêmio milionário de Ano Novo, que eu e meu sogro nunca ganhamos! Curiosamente, durante este ano, eu e 17 amigos compramos alguns bilhetes e conseguimos 4 dos 6 números totais, ganhamos um total de 1.200 BRL, que foi dividido entre todos, cada um recebeu cerca de 70 BRL, nem mesmo 15 USD haha, eu ganhei mais dinheiro durante o concurso Zealy ficando no top 100. E sempre há brigas homéricas entre meus sogros. O que é sempre ruim, mas infelizmente é uma tradição familiar, eu acho. Ainda assim, é uma experiência reunir-se com meus sogros, incluindo minha cunhada e seu marido. Tem comida, muitas pessoas reunidas, e também fofocas e brigas.

So our New Year's Eve was special with the four of us, a very private party with food, some music, and lots of love. However, it would be interesting to be someday again in a big family party with all the food you have until you blow out and also see some stressful fights and gossiping. However in my point of view, once in a while is good, it doesn't need to be always.

Portanto, nossa véspera de Ano Novo foi especial com os quatro de nós, uma festa muito particular com comida, um pouco de música e muito amor. No entanto, seria interessante estar novamente em uma grande festa de família com toda a comida disponível até você se sentir satisfeito, e também presenciar algumas brigas estressantes e fofocas. Contudo, na minha opinião, de vez em quando é bom, não precisa ser sempre.
