Coincidentally I was speaking about CCTVs with my mom yesterday. It had something to do with security at the kotoka international airport in Accra. She was narrating to me how one woman who uses Terminal 3 most of the time said she doesn’t believe the CCTVs at the airport function.
This was funny to me and at the same time a sad narrative to hear. The thing is that in a Ghanaian setting, people believe CCTV cameras are just there for decoration and in other words, it’s just there to scare thieves away.
The state of security in my country has never been a big issue. The thing is as a country we love peace and that is one valuable thing to us. Even though we do prioritize our peace and security there will always be areas which are not very safe to visit. Some of the matters arising in those areas always have to do with chieftainship.
Ghana a country in Africa has always been a favorable destination for tourists. Apart from offering a serene environment, we also offer a peaceful atmosphere for tourists. When it comes to hospitality we are always welcoming and will always love to see people come to our country to enjoy the beautiful sites that we have here. For example, visiting the Mole National Park has always been a popular destination for tourists who come to Ghana. At the Mole National Park, you get to see natural habitats and how they evolve.
As I said, we are a peaceful country but you and I know that not everywhere is a peaceful area for a country like Ghana. Mostly for tourists, it’s not advisable to visit the places like Bawku in the northern region. This is because they have had a long-standing tradition of fights which seem to reignite over little issues.

At the beginning of this year, they reignited it after authorities did their best to calm the situation the previous year. It has always been a tradition of them to reignite their fights each year so it’s not advisable for tourists to be in those areas.
The authorities are always quick to respond to this type of fight as they usually pronounce a curfew on those areas affected by these fights but before these curfews happen people would have always lost their lives. This is something that has become so prevalent in the area over time and people keep losing their lives yearly due to this conflict.
On the web, it is projected that Ghana is one of the most peaceful loving countries. This is something I side with cause at times I think if we should think about how our leaders are managing the economy, we should have been at war by now. Issues which other countries do coup over are the same issues we face or much worse but at the end of the day, we don’t call for violence. One other attribute of the Ghanaian is that we are hospitable. A trait which can be found in most Ghanaians especially if we know you are not from Ghana. We would love to treat you so well so you don’t miss home. We like it when foreigners praise us for being peaceful and hospitable so we will always hold those values in high esteem.
