This movie really tug my heartstrings and when I tell u that no matter how much I watch this movie, I cried like a baby, if you haven't noticed I really like deep emotionally movies that really moves me, I'm talking about movies that changes something in you or changes how you view a particular subject matter positively, this movie goes in depth and explains a very heavy subject matter and how it affects the person going through if and the people around.

"Paper Spiders" a 2020 indie drama, directed by Inon Shampanier, centers on a smart high school senior, Melanie (Stefania LaVie Owen), whose relationship with her mom, Dawn (Lili Taylor), is threatened by the heavy claws of mental illness.

Dawn slowly and painfully spiral into a mental health condition known as Paranoid delusional disorder, after an unpleasant interaction with her neighbour, and thinks that she is being harassing and constantly thinking that her neighbour is spying on her and is plotting against her. As all this unfolds Melanie prepares for college but is stuck in a painfully tricky situation where she has to choose between her future and her mother.

Feeling stuck, the weight of her mother's mental illness telling on the relationship she has with her mother, when Dawn believes that she is constantly being spied on and Melanie, her only family doesn't believe her.

Stefania LaVie Owen portrays the character, Melanie's strength, when Melanie feels defeated because she doesn't know how to help the person she loves, especially when the person doesn't acknowledge the fact that she needs help and when the roles is reversed and she had to take care of her mom and the house at such a young age which leans to the parent-child dynamic, quite tragic isn't it.

I do have to commend Lili Taylor on her impressive acting and how she portrays the character, Dawn, immaculately, slowly spiraling into mental illness and how she made it look raw and heartbreakingly real.

"Paper Spiders", I feel is a beautifully acted out drama that carefully and honestly show the pains of living with or living with someone who has mental health issues, especially those who don't really understand how to handle or go about it and how it can go undetected and be blamed on stress. It is a heart tuging emotional drama that talks on becoming of age under the shadows of mental illness and learning how to let go.
