I remember that before the official arrival of COVID-19 to my country a new Internal Auditor was appointed to the office, with this came a number of changes, among them was the proposal that I would become the area leader of a part of the office.
To give you an idea, in this office there is a large coordination, which is part of a group of lawyers in this area at some point in the past there was specifically a leader for the same in order to first make it easier to understand between colleagues and secondly that the area leader was the one who reported to the coordinator and thus the work flowed better.
Now, from the beginning I was not very convinced to be this area leader, because this new Auditor came to the office predisposed and was also foolish enough to listen to the gossip of a colleague who managed to become the coordinator of this large area.
It all happened so fast that I didn't realize it myself and, in a meeting with all the staff, he announced that I would be the area leader. The pandemic was already in effect, but he called us to work on call alleging some things that are not relevant.
The issue was that I did not like this appointment, because this man wanted me to become a kind of policeman and even an executioner for my coworkers, that is to say that I would be the one to do his dirty work, besides this appointment would mean more work and for the same salary.
I spent two or three weeks very, very upset, besides that the same colleague who had become coordinator, also dedicated herself to bother, perhaps thinking that I wanted her position, so after about three weeks I talked to the Auditor and told him that I did not want to continue performing these functions and that I would return to my old desk, to perform my duties as the rest of my colleagues.
This man was not only annoyed, he was in denial and alleged absurd things, besides offering me a promotion, which, in spite of my years of service and experience, I was entitled to, but I stood firm in my position and refused to stay there and took all my things out of the office that had been assigned to me.
The following weeks were very uncomfortable, because this man did not even say good morning to me and I looked, let's say ugly, but I was happy because I had regained my peace. I will never agree or lend myself to be a puppet in someone else's hands.
